Mia's POV:

"WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU YESTERDAY!" He yells once he notices I'm home.

"I was out." I answer simply, trying to keep him calm.

"WELL NO DUH! I COULD TELL THAT IM NOT AN IDIOT LIKE YOU." He screams at me. Well he's definatly not calm.

"You're such an slut Mia. Look what you're wearing." My brother Jace says while walking down the stairs. I'm currently wearing a crewneck and leggings. Does that seem slutty to you?

"I've been telling her that. She just doesn't listen!" My dad says to him. I can't take this anymore.

"YOU THINK I DON'T LISTEN?!?! DO YOU REALIZE HOW MUCH YOUR WORDS ACTUALLY AFFECT ME? I CRY MYSELF TO SLEEP EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. I GET BULLIED AT SCHOOL AND YOU AND JACE CALLING ME A SLUT AND ALL THOSE OTHER HORRIBLE WORDS DOESN'T HELP. YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH YOU'VE MADE ME HATE MYSELF. The only thing keeping me sane is Travis..." I yell, whispering the last part.

"Who's Travis? Your imaginary boyfriend?" My dad asks.

"My real boyfriend." I correct him. Jace and him burst out laughing.

"You. Have a boyfriend? Doubtful." Jace says still laughing.

"Fine. Believe me or don't believe me. It's true." I say.

"Kay. If he's real, I want to meet him." My dad says with a serious face.

"I don't think that's a good idea." I say. He looks at me with a confused face. Is he kidding me? "You went from yelling at me to being a normal dad."

"I don't know what you mean, Mia. I don't yell, I raise my voice." He says simply. How can he be so oblivious.

Ignoring his dumb comment, I roll my eyes. Luckily he didn't see. He freaks out whenever he sees me rolling my eyes. "I'll ask Travis to dinner tomorrow. He'll probably be busy though, he does a lot of activities." I say. I'm unable to reject his question, so why not let him think I want Travis to come over. "How about I go ask him now? We need to work on a project for English anyways." I halfway lie. There is a project for English but we'll end up at the beach.

"That sounds fine. Bye Mia." Dad says.

I grab my iPhone and wallet and walk out the door without saying a word. I call Travis on the way and tell him to meet me at the beach. On the way to the beach, I see a little girl and her dad at an ice cream store. They look so happy. I remember before my dad started drinking he would take me out for ice cream every Saturday. We went to the beach and talked about our week, while eating our two-scoop strawberry cones. Those were the days.

Someone taps my shoulder and I realize I'm at the beach.

"Uh hi..." A guy around my age says while looking down nervously. He's pretty cute. He has piercing green eyes and sandy blonde hair.

"Hey. Can I help you?" I say sweetly. Might as well make a good impression.

"Do you wanna maybe come play volleyball with my friends and I?" He says, looking me in the eyes.

"I'm actually waiting for my boyfriend to get here. Sorry. Maybe another time?" I explain.

"Oh Ok. That's fine I'm Blake." He says.

"I'm Mia." I say smiling at him. "It's nice to meet you."

"You too. I should probably get back to the game. See you around." He says. I smile and wave as he's walking away.

"I see you met Blake." Travis says out of nowhere. I jump and he puts his hand to his mouth trying to hide his laugh.

"Yeah, he asked if I wanted to play volleyball with his friends." I say.

"That's exactly how him and I met, and now we're good friends." He says looking over at him. "So what did you want me to meet you hear for? Is it just because I'm a fabulous boyfriend and you missed me after 20 minutes?" Travis says smirking.

"OH YES. TRAVIS I MISSED YOU SO BADLY." I lean in for a kiss and when he starts leaning in too, I pull away. He starts pouting and it looks so cute. It's so hard to resist not actually kissing him. "HA. That's what you get for being cheeky. But no, I need to ask you something. It's important." I say. He immediately turns serious. He grabs my hand and leads me over to a bench made of... Bamboo? This is California not China.

"Ok beautiful. What's your question?" Travis says, staring into my eyes. It's so easy to get lost in his bright blue orbs.

"Uhm... My dad wants to meet you." I say a lot slower than was necessary. His face is unreadable. It's like he is incapable of having emotions. I don't know what to think and I can't predict what he's gonna say.

"Mia, are you sure that's a good idea?" He says.

"I didn't say it was a good idea. I said my dad wants to meet you and he almost always gets what he wants." I say.

"I don't want to but I guess it's going to have to happen sometime. Why not sooner rather than later." Travis says, still mocking the face of a robot. "I'll come over tonight for dinner." My dad seems calm tonight so maybe that's a good idea. I just don't want him to forbid me to see Travis. Of course, I still would but if he found out I would be dead.

"That sounds fine. You HAVE to leave a good impression on him. I want him to approve so he leaves our relationship alone." I say. Travis nods slowly, as if thinking. "I'll call my dad and tell him you can come over today." My dad still sounds like a normal human. This is the first phone call since 3 years ago, when I was 14, what he hasn't yelled at me. He's probably saving his anger for after, so he can tell me what a horrible influence Travis is. Even though Travis is a better influence then he will ever be.

We head over to my house, which takes around 10 minutes to walk to from the beach. On the way we talk about school. He asks if he can do anything about Ava and her friends and I simply look down and say nothing. Before I know it, were walking up the steps to my front door. Travis holds my hand while knocking on the door. My dad opens and looks Travis up and down.

"Hi sir. I'm Travis." He says holding out his hand for my father to shake.
