BackstageHis hand was clutched in hers, his fingers traced the unhealed scars on her wrists, half of them being covered with band-aids or a white cloth wrap provided from the hospital. She had just been released from the Psych Ward yesterday.
"Why not?" He asked, a toothy grin sent her way when she obliged to watching the show from backstage.
"Hey, I bought the tickets, I'm going to use them," she laughed angelically, his thumb continuing to run against the skin on her backhand.
"Okay, be stubborn," he pouted, and she used her index fingers to lift his lips into a smile, "But you're coming backstage after the concert."
"But I want merch," she whined, tugging at the sweatshirt he gave her the first day she woke up.
"You have my sweatshirt," he emphasized the point that she had one of a kind Shawn Mendes merch.
"Dude," she started, "Just because we're friends--"
"Best friends," he interrupted.
She glanced at him, "Okay. Just because we're best friends, doesn't mean I don't still want every single piece of merch you have."
"I can give it to you, I'm Shawn Mendes."
Lucie rolled her eyes over dramatically, "No dip, but I--no."
"But I want cuddles after the show," he whined like a little two year old.
"While I'm waiting in line, you can take an extra long shower, so you're not sweaty and smelly. You always smell gross, Shawn."
"Wow, love you, too," he mumbled sarcastically, but butterflies erupted from her stomach even though they've said 'I love you' so many times before.
"C'mon, go get ready, bud, they're letting people in now," she informed him as they heard many teenage girls conversing just outside. They had no clue that Shawn was sitting on a couch just meters away from them.
"But I don't want to, I want to stay here with you," he wrapped both his arms around her small waist and tried to pull her back onto the cushions, but instead, she landed directly on his lap.
Their faces heated up, but neither of them made the effort to move from the awkward position. Lucie stared at her lap, ignoring the entire situation at hand while Shawn was staring at her, taking in all her features, counting all her freckles, studying the way her cheeks were a rosy pink when she was embarrassed and he loved everything about her.
"Hey, Lucie?" He spoke, watching as she lifted her head up slowly and locked eyes with him, she hummed a response.
"Do you want to--"
As he tried to shove away his nerves and ask her out on a date, Geoff comes running up to them, looking down at his phone as he rambles on about how it's pouring rain outside, but then he glanced up to see if Shawn was listening and he awkwardly took tiny steps backwards.
"Sorry, if I interrupted anything," he apologized, halfway out of the room.
Shawn pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to keep in his comments about how he did actually interrupt something important, but Lucie spoke up for him.
"Oh no, you're fine, Geoff," she grinned and that made his heartbeat settle down.
"Well, I'm going to start setting up the microphones and stuff, so uh, just be ready to go out in like," he glanced down at his watch, "Ten?"
Shawn hummed and Geoff awkwardly stumbled out of the room, which left Lucie glaring at him.
"Why were you so rude to him?"
Shawn shrugged, which made her angry and irritated, so she stood up from his lap and began to follow Geoff out of the room until he ran after her, grabbing her wrist and cringing when she hissed out in pain.
"Er, sorry. I forgot," he said, referring to her self harm, "It just uh--"
"Spit it out, Shawn," she seethed, becoming short with him because she didn't understand what the sudden mood change was about.
"Will you, uh, I just, um, do you want to go out tonight? Like uh, as, as a date?"
She stood in front of him, totally awestruck. Lucie didn't know what to say, she had never been asked out by a boy or even noticed by one, let alone someone she has idolized since she was eleven years old.
"Like I understand if you say no--"
"Sorry, I zoned out," she replied, "I'd love to go out with you, it's just. I don't know," she whispered, looking up at him shyly.
"Tell me," he took her hand in his, rubbing circles on the back of her palm.
"I've never been in a relationship before," she muttered, embarrassed, which he thought she shouldn't have been.
"We can take it slow."
"I'd like that."
He hesitantly wrapped his arm around her shoulders, afraid that he'd be stepping boundaries, but she just embraced it more by holding his arm.
"I still really love you, y'know," Shawn started, "Like we've said 'I love you' before we even got in this relationship, so I'm not just going to stop saying it. People might say we're taking things too fast, but I don't see a point in holding back telling you I love you, because I do, and I have for awhile."
"And I love you, too, my handsome boy," she replied and they walked out together, splitting up after hugging each other when she had to find a way to her seat without people knowing she was backstage while he went to get ready.
She was ecstatic and needed someone to fangirl with about her newfound relationship, she swore she was the happiest girl in the world.
Shawn was Lucie's light when everything else was dark, she was glad he was in her life in a new way and she hoped they'd stay that way.
A/N: in case you all wanted a happy ending, here you go, loves :)
