Shawn logged into his Twitter in the morning on his phone, he hadn't checked his direct messages in awhile because Lucie hasn't updated him in on her life since July tenth.
While eating his cereal, scooping the chocolate Cocoa Puffs and milk into his mouth, he dropped his spoon at the sight of the recent DMs, dating all the way back to July eleventh.
He read through them all, observing long and hard on the last one that she had sent just hours ago. Shawn wondered if it was too late, he started crying, for just barely reading this too late, for not being able to do anything and sitting here helpless.
Tears dropped onto his phone, and he closed his eyes, wondering if this was real. She was such a joyful spirit, he loved reading her messages, he thought she was getting better.
Shawn was crushed, he couldn't believe what he was happening. His phone vibrated once more and he focused on the incoming message from BRINGINGMENDES. He smiled, wiping his tears, but his facial expression dropped when he read the message.
BRINGINGMENDES: Hi Shawn, this is Lucie's friend, and judging by the texts, you already know what's going on. Um, she overdosed on ibuprofen, luckily her mom found her not too long after and they were able to get her to the hospital. Doctors flushed her stomach, but she's in a drug induced coma due to the amount of pills she took. No one knows if she's going to make it, it's all up to her at this point. We're at the Medical Center in San Antonio, TX if you wanna come see her. Best wishes.
He could immediately tell it wasn't Lucie because this person used capitalization with his name and punctually in general. He loved how quirky Lucie was when she typed, he wanted her to text him again, he just wanted to hear from her.
Shawn didn't care about anything else in the world, the only thing on his mind was her and it wasn't going to stop unless he went to see her. He dropped everything and headed down to the airport, he had to see her.
--
He did it, he was in the Austin airport trying to get a rental car. He up and left everything and everyone without telling a soul, but no one would understand why he did it. He's gotten so attached to this girl who told him stories, even if he never replied, she meant a lot to him.
After getting a car, he drove down to the center she was staying at, using his GPS for help of course. Shawn parked the car in a space nearest to the entrance and rushed into the building immediately.
He wasn't sure where to find her, so he went up the desk right across from the elevators and he knocked on the glass, alarming the man on the other side, but he couldn't be bothered at the moment.
"Hi, do you know where I could find uh, Lucie?" He asked, stuttering because he knew he would never be able to find her since he didn't know her last name.
"How do you spell it?"
Shawn spelled her first name for him, telling the man that he didn't know her last name, but it was very important. He found her room with no problem, and he had Shawn explain why she was in there to make sure he was valid to head up there.
"Thank you so much," Shawn cried when the receptionist told him her room number.
He walked into the elevator and pressed the three button. The floor moved from beneath him and elevators made him nauseous, but the door opened on the other side in no time, revealing a waiting room with two couches and four arm chairs.
Shawn pulled the door open and signed in to the visitors sheet by the desk before heading into her room. She laid limp in the bed, a tube down her throat.
