It wasn't long before Hiccup spotted the Nightmares. The black mares surrounded Toothless in midair. Hiccup could feel that his dragon was getting agitated, and tried to calm him down by patting him below the ear. The Nightmares attacke, and it took all of Hiccup's self-control to keep calm.
The Nightmares thrashed around him and Toothless, moving through the air faster than the wind could take them. Hiccup could occasionally see flashes of the blue sky.
The Nightmares dove, and Hiccup sucked in a breath of air. Never again, he promised himself. It was too... wild.
The Nightmares dissapated, leaving Hiccup and Toothless in a large cave. He felt like he had been here before... Like deja-vu. He dismounted Toothless, gaping at the large claw marks in the stone. Something huge must have been here.
He turned around and saw Merida and Jack crumpled on the ground, both shaking. Rapunzel was behind them, still chained down on the stone slab. Her hair was clear, so clear that Hiccup could see through it.
"So good of you to join us," a dark, oily voice said. Pitch.
"Show yourself," Hiccup said. It was all he could do to keep his voice from trembling.
Pitch laughed. "Channeling Miss DunBroch's spirit, I see. Well, it's a nice change. But not for long."
Hiccup knew what to expect. To keep him from freeing his friends or Rapunzel, Pitch would put him in a Nightmaric State, of sorts. And it would be up to him to get out of it.
Those claw marks really look familiar...
Toothless was freaking out, and Hiccup could understand why. This cave, with the claw marks, and the sheer size of it, was really freaking them both out. Pitch laughed. "I'm surprised you don't remember what was housed in here. Of course, it still is here... But you won't be around to see it, will you?"
Hiccup tapped his fingers on his leg. Repeatedly. "What are you going to do?" he asked, feigning ignorance. Small shadowy things lurked behind Merida and Jack's bodies. "What are those?" asked Hiccup. The way they moved, the deepness of the shadow...
"Those are my Fearlings," Pitch said, a loving caress in his voice. "First and foremost to Nightmares. More powerful. More awe-inspiring.
"Well, Hiccup, I believe it is time for you to sleep."
The Fearlings attacked Hiccup, making him crumple to the ground, the world turning black.
