Turns out the detention carried on the next day at lunch.
Slowly the group all came together, with someone from their own group.
India came in with Trina, but Val supposed that the misfit and hippy made sense. Chris came in with Lily and girl called Piper came in with Jase.
They were all sprawled out in the room, chatting, playing music or eating.
Anya came in with a large group of guys and girls but left them at the door.
While Trina unenthusiastically snacked on an apple and India-rose savoured her bowl of something organic, Anya only fidgeted with a diet coke can while chewing gum. Val sat across from the blond girl.
"Explain this excuse for a lunch." Val stated with her arms tucked between themselves. Anya smiled her movie star smile, but Val knew that smile, though it was an extremely convincing one.
"I've got an big family dinner later." She lied. Val knew the lie far too well, when she'd been much younger and her father had left she'd taken it out on herself by not eating. Believing she didn't deserve the luxury. So, thanks to it, she was still incapable of putting on much weight. She'd regretted it so much. Anya continued fidgeting.
"Hey, Val!" Chris called.
"Hey, man." She said joining the huddle of people.
"I love your outfit," Piper said,
Valerie didn't see why, it was just her usual, ripped white t-shirt, black skinny jeans and oversized leather jacket. "Thanks, yours too." Val returned.
Her frizzy curls and logo bomber gave her an edge. Not to mention her purple coloured lips that worked nicely against her dark skin.
"I'm Piper Saxe."
"Valerie,"
Chris butted in,"Stick with Piper and you'll basically run the school," they chuckled. Piper shrugged with a smile as if to say 'what can I say...'
"Hey Piper, mind if Val hangs around you while we go off to Viver?"
"Sure. She'd be sticking with me even if yall weren't going no where! Even if you didn't wanna stick with me, Valerie!" Her New York accent was thick.
"Thanks babe. What's Viver?"
"A yearly basketball tournament." Lily said. She seemed a little sadder than her usual self, not tackling people with hugs.
Valerie started laughing while they all stared at her, confused.
Her stomach hurt a little from the laughter.
"What's so funny?" Trina asked, stepping away from India-rose.
"I don't know..." Chris answered.
"Ohhh my god guys, sorry." She said recovering from her fit, "it's just when I was juvee stuff like tha-""YOU WERE IN JUVEE??" They all said in unison.
"Y-yeah... Shit, did I not tell any of you?"
Chris and Lily's mouth hung on the floor, and Piper looked... Interested.
"Damn," Jase said. "Wait, so the guy you knew with my name...?"
"Officer Jase Stevenson." Jase raised his eyebrows.
"H-hold up, why were you in there?"
Trina asked.
"Uh," Val scratched her neck, she had a habit of acting a bit boyish when she was uncomfortable, "Couple of things..." She trailed off.
They all leaned in.
"What? Did you kill someone?" Anya asked, suddenly appearing.
"Look, its obvious the girl don't wanna get into it, let's just back up, aight?" Piper ordered.
"Aight?" She repeated clearly wanting an answer.
They all mumbled agreements, packing up their stuff as the last bell rang.
They all mumbled goodbyes awkwardly as they headed out, splitting up into groups once again.
All but Piper.
Shrugging on her bag, Val furrowed her brows. "What's up?"
"You got somewhere to be?" She asked.
"No, why?"
Piper put her bejewelled hands in her pockets, she inclined her head towards the door.
