"Wait, he deals too?" Val whisper-shouted.
Anya chuckled as she threw her blond hair back, "Yeah, he's like the number one dealer in the school." With a Sideway glanced she added, "but don't get any ideas..."Lily latched onto the group, her white-ish hair casually pouring over her shoulder. "You know, if you need a job or something to do, there's an opening in the diner I work at."
Did she have super hearing or something?
"Yeah, actually. That would be pretty cool." Val replied.
"Alright, well, me and Chris will be there after school so pop by, it's called Leon's." Lily said before waving goodbye and heading into a class.
"Guess I got me a pass time that pays and lets me avoid my sister!" Valerie mused.
***
Valerie tapped away on her phone, the group chat buzzing non-stop.
Jase, Trina, India, Anya and The smiths. The only place they could all chat casually.
They were all joking about with Trina.Calm down, angel , it's just a joke x
Was the text Jase sent to calm down his all of a sudden serious girlfriend.
Right before her phone was swiped away from her hold."Hey!" She shouted spinning around to find a long arm restraining her.
"Give me my phone back, Alec!"
With one arm around her and the other holding the phone up and humour-sly reading aloud the texts.
Reading the last text he frowned,
"Angel?" He chuckled, devilishly.Suddenly, they'd flipped positions and he had trapped her against her car. Both of his arms either side of her.
Valerie knew she could of easily gotten out of the situation since he didn't really have intentions of genuinely hurting her.
"Don't they know?" He said very quietly, his eyes looking at her suggestively."What?" She barely whispered, trying and sort of failing to seem unaffected by their position.
Alec leaned in much too close, his breath tickling the crook of her neck.
"You're my angel." His stormy eyes locked with hers, "Only mine."They both chuckled at the cheesiness and his smile was better than sunshine.
She'd expected him to move and disappear into the night how the books say they will. But he didn't.
He enjoyed making her uncomfortable.
He must've been having a blast.
Alec noted her rugged breath.
"I'm glad I make you scared." He chuckled. This guy. He was insane, maybe he wasn't just dealing but also taking drugs. Or maybe he was just some twisted character.
"You're sick." She said brushing past him. But, she had forgotten that 'sick' had its classic meaning and the modern meaning, the slang version.
"Where're you heading, angel?" He chirped, following her as she went over to the driver seat door.
"You're being awfully friendly." Val said cautiously.
"We met on a bad day, angel."
"Stop calling me that."
"Okay, angel."Great, another nickname.
She slid into the seat and shut the door, leaving The Beast. "Not taking me with you?"
Val smiled pleasantly before driving off. She released a long sigh.
Alec was bipolar, one minute being a cold, distant asshole, the next being a charming, flirty prick.
The passenger seat door flew open and quickly slammed shut as he raced into the car.
"WHAT THE FUCK!?"He jumped into a 25 mph car in motion.
His chuckle was breathless and cool, casual almost if he hadn't jumped. Into. A. Damn. Car."Relax,babe1." He said.
"I will throw up if you call me that again."
"Oh baby don't be like that!" He theatrically cried, dripping amusement.
Valerie scowled, "I preferred the other nickname." She sunk into the seat.
"You might've cried if I'd told you what the next one was."
"So, are you bipolar?" Val asked, her seriousness not making it through.
Alec slipped a cheesy grin.
"Depends on my mood, ironic right?"Val groaned. This guy wasn't going anywhere.
***
They pulled up at the diner.
"Stay in the car." She growled. He chuckled, "No."
Alec was greeted by a polished middle finger. But he styled that out far too well by taking her hand, unravelling it and planting a kiss on it.
Valerie rolled her eyes and yanked her hand back. Strolling into the diner.
It must've been about 6 and the sky was already dark. Lily stood chatting to Chris, who sat at the diner till. There was one old guy in there, sipping on tea.
"Hey," Val greeted,
"H-" Lily dropped her smile when she saw Alec walk in. Chris spun round on his stool and his eyes almost bulged out of his head.
"Hey guys!" Alec mockingly said with a sarcastic amount of enthusiasm.
"H-hey..." Chris said with an excuse for a wave.
"Um, uh can I get you a coffee?" Lily asked snapping out of her daze.
"Black coffee. Thanks." Alec said, his voice sounding like velvet.
"Water, please." Valerie said politely trying to shift the awkwardness.
"Sure. Val, come with me to the back?" Her eyes quickly flashed to Alec,
"For the interview... Obviously..."Alec flashed a false smile and slid next to Chris--automatically making him stiffen. It seemed Alec relished in the uncomfort of others.
"Explain." Was all Lily said as she dragged Valerie into the kitchen.
"Well I mean, you invited me here earlier so..."
That earned her a hit on the arm.
"Not that silly! Why is Beast here?"Valerie snickered at the name.
"Long story... Come on he's not that bad... A bit bipolar but not that bad!"
Lily huffed, "Fine. But i mean are you two like... A thing?"
Valerie laughed so much it made her stomach hurt. That was never how she'd imagined her next relationship starting. "Hell no."
"Oh... Oh!" She sounded suggestive.
That got her a hit in the arm.
"Gross! You actually think I'd do that? No! I Just... Run into him... Everywhere I go."Lily had the same look that Anya had had when she'd said they'd look cute together. Nothing about them was 'cute'. He was confusing, aggressive, pain-inflicting and... Extremely gorgeous.
"So," Val said returning to the door, "Did I get the job?"
Lily laughed in agreement.
"I got the job!" Valerie pretended to be surprised. Chris smiled and Alec grinned. "Congrats, Val. Oh but, uh, watch out for the greasy customers. They're slimy." Chris informed.
"So, what about that coffee?Barely started and youre messing up orders already." Alec drawled, leaning in over the counter.
She knew then that she was going to be known around school as 'the beauty to the beast'.
She hated that story.
