Gunshots rang out loudly through the air that was heavy with smoke. Coughing and running frantically you didn't notice when you ran straight into the thick of it all. Your eyes widened and you ducked to avoid being hit with a bullet. All around you angry citizens and guards gathered but no one seemed to notice you, huddled on the ground, with tears streaming down your dirt stained cheeks.

The only thing you could hear were the enraged yells of men and the screams of women and children as they were innocently slaughtered. You tried to get up but you were forced to stay on the ground with your head low as you tried to evade the kicks of the guards and citizens. You gasped as you were kicked hard in the side.

"Get up!" Someone yelled and they grabbed your arm, yanking you up harshly, beginning to pull you through the crowd. But you knew better, they weren't saving you and you struggled. The person's grip only tightened and you cried out.

"Let me go!" You tried to pull your arm out of their grasp once more but it was for nought. Suddenly you were thrown to the ground again and through blurry vision you looked up to see men surrounding you.

"No no no." You whispered to yourself, desperately trying to get away but you were only held down. However you fear turned to confusion as one of the men started shaking your shoulder.

"Wake up! Wake up!" A voice said and your eyes shot open and you found yourself in bed and not in the middle of a group of men grinning down at you. You turned your attention to the person who woke you up, seeing the familiar face of your assassin. His eyes were wide with worry and his hands on your shoulders. The relief that it was only a dream crashed over you but you still felt tears prick at your eyes.

"Oh darling, don't cry, it was only a nightmare. I'm here." Arno said, bringing you into his arms. You buried your face in his shoulder clutching onto him like he was a lifeline. You tried to hold back your tears but failed miserably. Arno did his best to calm you, rubbing your back softly while he kissed your head.

"Shhh, it's okay." He whispered, running a hand through your hair. It broke his heart for you to cry like this and he was curious about the nightmare. He just waited patiently for your crying to subside which it did within a couple minutes.

"Sorry." You sniffled lightly, pressing your cheek against his shoulder so you could kiss the side of his neck lightly.

"Don't apologize, it's more than alright." He replied. "Do you want to talk about it?" He asked. You bit your lip lightly, debating whether or not you wanted to. "If not that's okay." He assured.

You leaned back so you could see his face but remained in his arms. Concern for you shown in his eyes and he lifted a hand to brush away the tears that remained on your cheeks. He kept his hand on your cheek, caressing it and you leaned into the touch.

"I was out in the city." You said after a moment. "And I was in the middle of a fight. Everything was so loud, the screams and shouts and gunshots. I felt like I was choking from the smoke from the fires. I was on the ground getting kicked but I couldn't get up until a man pulled me up and dragged me to a group of others. They just... stared down at me... I knew what they wanted to do, Arno. It was terrible." Your voice became a whisper and Arno gazed at you sympathetically, wiping away a tear that slipped down your cheek.

He leaned forward and pressed his lips to yours but pulled away soon after.

"It's okay, that won't happen, but I'll be here to protect you." He told you and you nodded, leaning forward to kiss him again.

"Thank you." You replied. "For everything. You're so good to me." He smiled and you couldn't help but return it.

"Of course, I love you."

"I love you too."

You stayed in his embrace for a while longer with your head against his shoulder, trying to wash the nightmare out of your mind while Arno hummed softly and rubbed your back once more.
