A COLD AUTUMN NIGHT

You told me she was your universe.

The pain of your words like a hot knife through my heart.

A sleepless night, tear-soaked pillow.

I leapt from my window in a zeal for escape.

The feel of the sweet wet grass ignored by my bared feet.

They carried me away...away from your words.

I tried to escape, but it was etched in my head, caressing the glistening mass of brain.

The cold night air attacked my bared skin.

I raced through dark woods,

Branches clawing at my hair and arms.

Twigs tearing at the sole of my feet.

I ran, ran...to the only friend I know. My beloved sea.

My bleeding feet carried me down the steps of those walls.

My thumping heart longed to be in her arms.

My cold stricken body trembled for her comfort.

My airless lungs longed to be filled up with her.

I could taste her, her saltiness in my mouth.

I slipped off my light garment of blood red roses etched in black.

I stood naked in the blistering cold,

And dove...deep in the depths of the sea.

She enveloped me,

Soothed my aching heart.

She whispered sweet words of our love.

She took the pain of you away.

The sacrifice of me she made for you.

She let me go safe.

Her healing waters glimmering in the moon.

She keeps the secrets of that cold autumn night.
