Rainy days

The yells of thunder awoke her from her nightmare. The same terrifying nightmare she's been having for years, since the very last time she saw him.

Sweat dripped down her forehead and her T-shirt clung to her back as well as her hair to her face. She sat up and rubbed her tired eyes, realizing she was in the living room on the couch. Outside was dark still and it was flurring. Her husband still has not made it home from work yet which meant they were completely alone. Shit.

Quickly, she threw her blanket off of her and ran upstairs to make sure her kids were okay. To make sure they were still there, still asleep, still safe and sound. And to her relief, they were. She sat at the edge of her daughter's bed and slightly pushed a few strands of light brown hair away from her face.

You look just like your father..

She shook her head. No. He doesn't exist Lana.

Re'nae moved around in her bed and groaned, peering her light mocha eyes open a little. She tiredly smiled at her mother.

"Hey momma.." her voice was soft and light- almost angelic. It warmed her mothers heart.

"Hey baby,"

"Is daddy here yet? What time is it?"

Her mother sighed. Everytime she heard her daughter say daddy. It didn't feel right, even after all the years of being married. But it didn't bother her when her son said it. Only because her son is her husband's biological child.

"No, it's still too early for him to be here. But he'll be here for you after school." She looked at the digital clock on the small dresser by the bed. 6:05 a.m. Time to get them ready for school.

"But momma, I don't wanna go to school. I don't feel good, I feel like throwing up." Re'nae whined. Lana leaned in to feel her forehead and she did in fact have a fever.
Goodness.

"Alright. I'll start breakfast and wake your brother up, I just need you to stay in bed until we have to drop him off."

Being a stay at home mother of two wasn't hard, but it wasn't easy either. Her husband was always at work and sometimes Lana would have her suspicions, but she always kept them to her self - to avoid any problems. Her step mother, or god mother, (or whatever) was also always at work. Catching criminals, handing out tickets and DUI's. Lana usually carried a lot on her shoulders and suffering from PTSD and other things didn't help anything.

At the age of fifteen, she lost everything. Her parents, the rest of her family, her real home, her sanity. He took her away from everything and locked her away from society- anything besides the darkness. He tortured her every single day. He made her do unspeakable things that no one should even think to do.

Before him, though, she's been moved from home to home being that she was born a foster child. She's been through many abusive homes and schools, until she turned fifteen and finally found the perfect family. But of course that was taken away from her all over again and it was all because of him.

She took the pot of water off of the stove and poured it in a cup over a black tea bag, adding in some honey and lemon to treat Re'nae's cold.

Soon her step-son, Ty, tiredly trudged through the kitchen and said good morning to her.

"Can I have some tea too mom?"

"What, are you sick too?"

"I'm getting there I guess. But I'll be okay today."
