The Choice [Mashlum]

prologue

Michael was sat at his family's kitchen table because he had come home for a little visit. It had been awhile because he's been so busy with work and his boyfriends that he needed to see his parents at some point too so on one of the days where he wasn't busy and his boyfriends were, he drove the hour up the beach to see his family. Now he was sat with a sandwich in front of him and his mom sitting across from him. They were chatting about everything and anything until Karen Clifford brought up Michael's boyfriends.

"You know dear, you're gonna have to choose at some point."

"Why do I have to choose?" Michael raised his eyebrow in confusion.

"Well you can't marry both Calum and Ashton."

"What if I don't ever get married?"

"You will eventually have to choose between them, you can't keep going with this relationship."

"And why not?"

"I just worry it's unhealthy." Karen sighs at her son.

"Or the more believable answer is because you've been uncomfortable with my three way relationship since it started almost three years ago."

"Mikey, you're gonna have to-"

"No, I don't think I do but thanks for your input." Michael tells her coolly taking the last bite of his sandwich before screeching the chair back on the hardwood and standing up out of the chair.

"I'd say thanks for the visit mom, but this hasn't been exactly heartwarming. If I had known I'd get scolded for my relationship I would have stayed home."

"I'm sorry but I just don't see this working out in the long run."

"Then I guess I'll just prove you wrong, you can't ask me to choose between them, that's not fair."

That was the last thing Michael said to his mother before he picks up his car keys and leaves the house without giving her a hug or kiss on the cheek. He was so upset, he hates how his mom doesn't like his relationship, it's his not hers. He loves his boys and he can't bare to choose between them. But what happens when Karen's voice keeps echoing in his mind? Will Michael succumb to those thoughts or will love conquer all?
