Dan wasn't feeling happy today.
He sat on the roof of his suburban house and looked out onto the roads below him. They crossed over each other and cars drove along them mindlessly.
Dan wondered if maybe, in one of those cars was someone who could make him happy. All he wanted was a reason to stop being sad. He so sick of it.
The sun was beginning to set and Dan was preparing the climb back down the tree that lead him to the roof when he saw a figure walking along the road below his house.
He was tall. The last of the sun caught on his skin, making it glint, almost like he was radiating the light himself.
His hair was dark. Black, most likely.
Dan stared at him as he strode down the road. He obviously had a clear destination.
Suddenly, the boy looked up and locked eyes with Dan. Dan wanted to shrink away from his gaze but felt glued to the spot.
His feet were dangling off the edge of the roof. He was leaning forward, almost in anticipation, to see if the ebony haired boy would say anything.
He did.
"Are you gonna jump?" He half yelled. "Because the fall won't be enough to kill you. Not high enough."
Dan didn't say anything for a while. He was transfixed.
"Can I join you?" The boy asked.
Dan found his words and uttered out an: "Of course."
Phil immediately started up the big tree that joined to road and Dans roof. He climbed it with an elegance and ease. Even after years of Dan climbing that tree, he still struggled. This boy didn't struggle at all.
"How did you do that?" Dan asked curiously as the boy reached him.
"I think I was a cat in my past life. Sometimes draw cat whiskers on my face. Makes me feel more like myself."
Dan let out a small chuckle which the boy joined in on. It was the first time Dan had laughed in a while.
"It's you." Dan said, once the laughing had died down. He locked eyes with the boy.
"It's Phil. My name is Phil." The black haired boy said. Dan noticed then how he had blue eyes. They glittered when he looked at them.
"You're the one that's gonna make me happy." Dan said.
Phil smiled and looked back out to the sunset.
"I know."•
Ahhhh I don't know if I like this.
How are you guys?
I'm doing okay :)
