Lauren's POV

"You will never be forgiven for what you've done!" Severus pulls me back into the castle by the collar, shoving me past the doors until I stumble on my own two feet and fall back. Looking up at the dark haired man from the floor, I ignore the scrape now bleeding from my knee and let the tears flow out of my eyes. "Do you know what you've done!"

"I'm sorry," I try to hold back a small sob, stumbling backward as the angry man continues to walk towards me in angered steps. I was confused and scared to why they took Camila away from me. I wanted her back! "What did you do to Camz?"

Severus takes my by the collar again and lifts me up into his arms, carrying me bridal style to the other side of the hallway where Dumbledore stood, his eyes glassy and face masked with a blank expression. I knew he was upset.

"This has gone too far, Lauren." The older man addresses me quietly, his eyes meeting mine briefly before looking down at my hand. My marking was still present and glowing but it didn't matter, it was already done. "I'm afraid I can no longer protect you."

"What are you talking about?" My voice cracks, my trembling hands gripping onto the black cloak over my loose jeans and dirty shirt. I pleadingly look into his blue eyes and find myself growing confused as tears well up in the corners of his eyes, "What's gonna happen to me now? To Camila?"

I swallow hard as I watch the man walk towards me, placing a wrinkled hands over my cheek with a small sigh. I stare into his glassy blue eyes and there's hurt in them, I can tell. Dumbledore takes a good look at me as I continue to cry, wiping his eyes and sighing before swallowing away the hurt clear as he speaks. "Lauren, you have to be put away from the rest of the kids. You can't live with Hagrid or Snape, understand?

I don't know whether to cry or laugh because the older man has to be joking, otherwise I don't think I'll ever be able to handle the pain gnawing at my heart. I clutch onto Snape's sleeve with all I can muster, knowing what he meant by put away. When most wizards went crazy or too dangerous in the wizarding world, they were put away so that no other living soul was able to make contact with them. "Can't I have another chance?"

"Lauren," Snape is the first to speak, leaning over on one knee so that he's eyes leveled with me. I stare into his dark brown eyes and my lips quiver when he places a hand over my cheek, sighing shakily. "This is the third time. We managed to keep the second incident a secret for your well-being as a child and as a future witch. If the council ever finds out there was a second, much more the third, they'll harm you."

"They'll kill you, Lauren." Dumbledore whispers, his eyes growing watery when I look back into them. I don't flinch and I certainly don't want to grow scared either because death is just death, Dumbledore told me once. It will never be hard or painful to me, but it will for others. I now knew that this was no longer just a threat to me, but to my family, my home. "They will take your life with no remorse and leave us here without you, you can't do that to yourself...to us."

To Camila, I think to myself.

The thought of knowing I would never be able to to protect her form the harming of this cruel world made me feel like a useless best friend. I loved that girl more than anyone else in this world, and I couldn't bear the thought of all the nights she'd sleep alone with no one there to help her fall asleep. I stare up at Severus again, not trusting Dumbledore's voice when tears threaten to cascade down his wrinkled cheeks. "What about Camila?"
