Chapter Twelve: The Phone Call

 I looked down expecting another text message but instead.. it was an incoming call. I looked at the caller ID and almost peed myself.

Jane!

I quickly answered and held up a finger to George. Wait a minute, i mouthed.

"Jane? Jane boo where are you?" I asked frantically in the phone. My tone must have intriged George because he came closer, hugging me from behind so he can hear.

"Darling.. nice guess." His voice. It was the same voice that haunts my nightmares.

"You." I trembled. "WHY YOU?"

"Sweet heart..," I could see his cold smile," it's always been me. Now, if you want to see you're little friend alive. you have to play the game... alone. So step out of that filth's arms. Forget about him. If you see him anymore after today I'll kill off you're friends one at a time.. Your choice."

"Now listen here fuck knuckle," I felt George laughing, it made me smile, but now wasn't the time."How do i know you even have her? I mean you could be lieing...again."

"'All is fair in love and war'. And low blow sweetheart, low blow." I heard him chuckle darkly, "And fine hear it from her."

"Annie?" I heard Jane whisper softly.

"I TOLD YOU NOT TO CALL HER THAT!" His angry shout was follow by a thud and a whimper. At this time i was grabbing my keys and motioning to George i had to leave.

"DON"T YOU TOUCH HER!" I practically scream into the phone.

"Oh sweetie, you're the only one i want im just teaching her ........... discipline."

"This was never about the book was it?" I asked seething.

"No but i do have it. I had to get it. If i didn't wll the game wouldn't be any fun. Oh and Jane want to talk to you." His voice was so cold i shivered.

"Annebelle? Don't listen to him. I don't  think you could find me if you tried just please, please don't listen to him." I heard another thud.

"I'll give you a hint to where we are at every hint you'll find another. At the end if you find All the hints cal the number and I'll let her go. You have twenty-four hours. Oh and remeber what i said about....... it. I'll be watching"

So this was his game? Threatening me with my friends, making me leave George. To play a stupid Game?

Then I got my first official hint.

I turned to George with a frown. "I love you.. you know that?"

"I love you too.. what are you doing?" George had this look on his face like i was about to commit murder.

"Don't follow me. Don't contact me. And DO NOT give me that look. I;ll love you forever but i can't see you anymore." He went to object but i cut him off, " I'm doing what i need to keep you and her safe. Please..watch out for her?"

He nodded his head. I gave him a quick kiss and ran out the door. He tried to catch my hand but i was running to fast. I ran to my car before i could get in I felt hands grab me. My heart caught inmy throught when a hucky vioce whispered low in my ear, "Where do you think you're going?"
