Those words sent a shot to Steve's heart; he felt himself collapse on the inside. He looked at you with such a hurt expression that you felt the urge to hug him, kiss him, tell him that everything was going to be alright and that the girl he fell in love with was still in there...but you couldn't. He hurt you in the worst way - he through your biggest weakness in your face the day that you had you huge fight.
Peggy Carter.
You respected Agent Carter and looked up to her for quite some time. You respect and admiration for her turned into hurt and jealousy when you found out about her special relationship with Captain Rogers. You weren't jealous or mad at first, after all, Steve wasn't your first love and you didn't expect yourself to be his first. Your insecurities just always got the best of you. Of all people that could have been Steve's first love, it had to be one of the strong woman you looked up to.
During the fight you and Steve had, He threw your insecurity in your face. After he accused you of cheating on him with Bucky, you said something along the lines of "Well, he wouldn't treat me like a child," and Steve threw back, "Well, Peggy wouldn't talk to me like this!" After that, He continued saying Peggy was always the superior one and if he had the chance, he wouldn't have crashed plane in the water; he would have lived a long and luxurious life with Peggy. You slapped him and ran out of you shared apartment. That was when you left the Avengers Tower for good and began your new life
"(Y/n, I ne-" Steve started, but was cut off by the sound of sirens outside of the church. You ran out to see all of your friends laying on the ground. You walk down the stairs,
"What the hell happened here?" You asked high-pitched voice. There was a SWAT team consisting of 4 people with helmets on and three of them had guns.
"You are villains after all, how were you not expecting this?" Tony smirked and the blood in your body began to boil. Steve walked out of the church and frowned,
"You turned her in, Tony?" He asked with a little bit of anger in his voice.
"She's a villain now, Steve. This is the path she chose. Plus, I didn't call them in." You stared at the SWAT team, getting a vibe that something was off. The Avengers slowly realized that the SWAT team was not called for. The main guy slowly took off his helmet glasses revealing the last person you expected to see.
"Puddin'!" You excitedly squealed while wrapping your arms around him. He chuckled,
"Let's go home." He smiled. The Swat team started shooting at the Avengers and you and Joker jumped into the car. The team jumped in the back and the Joker stepped on the gas pedal.
