"As far as I can tell there's only one person in there right now." Brick said. It was almost midnight and no one can be seen outside."And whoever is inside, he seems to be cooking dinner."
"Dinner at this hour?" I said in a hushed tone.
"An assassin's ways is not for the questioning of the uninitiated." I heard Alyse whisper short syllables and the door opened. We entered quietly and Alyse worked her magic to turn us invisible. We walked silently.
The tenement was bathed in the orange light of the lamps that, I noticed, were strategically placed so as not to make any shadows. Furthermore, the loft was divided into three parts, a living room where we are now, a kitchen where the smell of food comes from, and what I could only guess as the bedroom.
"There's something odd about that room." Alyse said, following my gaze to the bedroom door. Alyse crafted the spell so that we are still visible to each other. "It's quite foreboding."
"I feel the same." Brick said, his grip on his axe was tightening. I don't know what it is for them but I don't feel anything so I just shrugged them off and proceeded to the kitchen where I found Eris cooking something. Alyse moved past me and took out a vial and poured it contents into the pot as Eris turned away from it to slice the potatoes. We exited the tenement.
"I want to deal the killing blow and not to just poison the assassin." I told Alyse as we turned visible.
"Lucky for you then," she said as we leaned on the walls, waiting for Magnus to show up. "It wasn't poison. Just paralyzing potion. Now can we discuss where you found that book and how on earth are you able to open it?" She indicated the bundle that brick was carrying. Inside it is the book that Drahken lent me from the library.
"I fail to see the impact of me opening the book." I stated
"This book can only be opened by the Dragons, young miss." Brick said as he examined the thick volume with only one hand. Alyse contemplated the thought but I still fail to see it because of the adrenaline coursing through my veins as I await the final moments of my revenge.
I peeked past our hiding place and saw a man approaching the tenement. "I think that's him." I try recalling the night my parents died, trying to remember something about the murderer. I quickly dismissed the thought lest I contaminate the memory with my imaginings. "Is there some way to find out if it's Magnus?" I turned to my companions.
L
"Probably." And Brick went over to the man approaching the tenement. Alyse and I weren't able to react when he slammed the man into the wall, smashing some piled crates. Eris went out the apartment. "Take care of him." I said to Alyse as I ran past Eris towards the shell-shocked Magnus. As he was just recovering, I swung my rapier towards him, it's blade an iridescent blur. A clang resounded as my blade was blocked. However, I recovered quickly with a thrust towards Magnus' diaphragm. His futile attempt to evade my attack still had him pierced in the stomach, I pull my blade back and he starts to bleed. My fury took over me and with a few dozen strokes, I had severed some of his muscles in the arms and legs. He took one more step towards me but was sent slamming back into the wall by one fell swoop of Brick's arm.
He lays motionless.
I have my revenge.
