*Demi's POV*
The rest of the day went by pretty quickly, I was just so happy. When school was over, I made my way to the parking lot. I looked around for my car and cursed under my breath. Selena took me to school this morning. There's no way I can get home besides going with her, or walking. My house is about an hour away by foot. I don't want to bother Selena though. She probably has something to do or somewhere to be. I don't want to be a burden. I started to walk down the sidewalk in the direction of where I lived. I took out my iPod, put headphones on my ears, and blasted my favorite Paramore songs in my ear.
By now I've been walking for about twenty minutes. Fuck. I'm not even a quarter of the way home. Maybe this is going to take longer than I expected. I continued walking on the sidewalk when a white van started to drive by me. When it was passing by, it seemed to slow down a bit. I started to become paranoid and I began to walk faster. The van drove at my exact walking speed. It stayed right besides me. I was shaking. What is going to happen to me? I ran. I ran faster than I ever have before. The car started to drive fast. I kept running and I noticed that there was a gas station nearby. I ran into the parking lot, the white van following closely behind. I didn't know where else to go, so I entered the store. I walked towards the cashier and begged him, "Please let me use your phone?" He nodded and handed it to me. I dialed Selena's number so fast I could have broken my fingers. After a couple of rings Selena picked up. "Hi, who is this?" "SELENA IT'S DEMI PLEASE HELP ME THERES A WHITE VAN THATS CHASING ME I'M STUCK AT THE GAS STATION ON 152nd STREET PLEASE COME QUICKLY I'M SCARED" I cried into the phone. "Holy shit Demi. I'll be there in a couple minutes." She hung up.
The bell rang, signaling the door being opened. A middle aged man with a leather jacket walked in. He shot me a creepy, mischievous grin. I panicked and looked at the cashier, the only other person in the store. The cashier began to speak, "Excuse me sir, I'm going to have to ask you to leave or I'll call the police." The man stepped closer to us and the cashier grabbed the phone out of my hands to start dialing 911. The man said, "I suggest you put down the phone," and reached for something in his back pocket. He took out a gun. I began to cry and said, "Please don't hurt me. I haven't done anything wrong. I swear I'll do anything if you don't hurt me or him," and pointed at the cashier. I heard a quiet voice speaking from the phone. The cashier had time to dial the police! I looked at the man, his grin returning to his face. He didn't notice that he called the police. Maybe if the police listen in on our coversation they'll come and arrest him. The man walked closer to me, "So you say you'll do... anything?" Shit. No no no no no no no no no no no no no. This can't be happening. He continued to walk towards me. He was getting too close. I began to back up. I kept on walking until I hit the wall. Fuck. Shit. Crap. Motherfucker. He came up to me and placed his hand on my breast. I jumped. He let out a wicked laugh, "Don't worry. I don't bite. Well... Maybe a little," He said. He started to touch up and down my body. Tears were all over my face, my makeup was smeared. I was a mess. I tried shoving him off of me, but that only made it worse. He played with the button of my jeans, well they were actually Selena's.
He unbuttoned them, and began to tug on them, trying to pull them off. I heard sirens in the distance. The man stopped what he was doing. Two policemen barged into the store, guns in hand. My heartbeat slowed down. Thank god. I was safe. They pointed their guns at the man. The man froze and put his hands in the air. One of the policemen handcuffed him. They both recited the Miranda rights, "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you by the state." The better looking officer motioned for me to follow him. I did as he said. Before I exited the store, I looked back at the cashier and mouthed, thank you. He smiled and nodded, as if saying "you're welcome". I followed the police out of the store. One of them pushed the man into the backseat of the police car. He slammed the door and walked up to me.
He held out a notepad and began interrogating me, "How old are you?" "Why were you at the store?" "Did he have a weapon?" "What did he do to you?" They asked me all of the questions that needed to be asked. When they were done, the decent looking officer said, "Thank you..." "Demi." I smiled. "Thank you, Demi." the better looking officer said. I looked at their nametags. "You're welcome, Schmidt and Jenko." They looked at each other, as if wondering what they were supposed to do next. Clearly they were new. Schmidt said, "We should probably take you home, it's getting late." I frowned. "Um. Somebody is supposed to be coming. She'll come soon." Schmidt and Jenko nodded. "Just to make sure that you're safe, we'll wait here with you until your friend shows up." I said "ok" and sat down on the curb. I put on my Beats and placed my head in my hands. Today was crazy. It was supposed to be a good day. When the man from Hollywood Records offered me a record deal, I was ecstatic. I thought that I was going to actually be happy today. I guess that only lasted a short while.
Somebody removed my headphones and whispered, "Demi." My ears instantly recognized the voice and my head shot up. "Selena, thank you so much for coming. I was so frightened." I stood up and gave her a long hug. I smiled into her shoulder and whispered, "Thank you." again. She has been here for me for all of my troubles. I truly am thankful for having her in my life. I pulled away and she smiled. "So do you wanna head home now, Dems?" My eyes lit up at the nickname. I nodded excitedly. She laughed and told me to follow her to the car. I waved bye to the officers and they said goodbye. I sat in her car and the police drove off. Selena looked at me, "Do you want me to bring you back to your house?" I hesitated. Do I want to face my family again? I guess I'm going to have to at one point. "Yes." I stated. She looked at me, worried. "You sure?" She asked. I nodded and she drove off to my house. I leaned against the window and drifted off. When she pulled up in my driveway, there was only one car there. My biological parents had left. Maybe today WAS my lucky day. Maybe I would never have to see them again. I looked at Selena. "Thank you," I said one last time. "You need to stop thanking me, Demi. I'm happy to help you. I'll be here for you no matter what." I smiled. I was about to thank her again, but I remembered what she just told me and stopped myself. She leaned over and gave me a hug. When she pulled away, her lips slightly brushed against my cheek. Shivers were sent down my spine. My face turned completely red. I walked out of the car and waved goodbye. I walked up to my doorway and knocked. I was going to have a lot of explaining to do.
