He pulled against the ropes with all his might, but they wouldn't give.

 "Don't Bother", a voice said.

He looked up to discover a thin girl bound by the same rope. Although it was dark he could see her bruised eyes and bloody wrists.

 "I already tried"

He stared at the girl and blinked his eyes trying to adjust them to the darkness. He could see her struggle to turn her head away from the pole she was tied to, their eyes met.

"Who are you?" He whispered.

"Someone you never want to meet." She spat then looked away.

Time passed before they spoke again, to Alexander it felt like hours. It in fact was only about twenty minutes.

"Why are you down here?" The girl finally asked.

"It's a long story."

"Oh trust me kid, mine's even longer."

Alexander thought for a moment. About the real reason he was down in this damp, cold, dark chamber of the pirate ship.

"My. Father." He mumbled under his breath. It had taken him some time to realize this, but his father was the whole reason for this undoing.

"And?" She said un-empathically?"

"He sold me." Alexander said his voice trembling as the realism of this fact hit him.

"Oh." She didn't say anything else after that. The waves of the ocean rocked the ship back and forth. And they could almost hear the shouts of the soldiers above them.

"What is your name?" Alexander asked.

"Drusilla."

"I've never heard that name before."

"That's because it's pirate." She muttered, disgusted at the fact.

"Mind telling me why your trapped at the bottom of a pirate ship if you are a pirate?"

"I'M NOT ONE OF THOES THEVEING CONNIVING SCOUNDRELS! How DARE you" She bellowed.

"Alright! ALRIGHT! I'm sorry!" He shouted back at her.

"Keep your voice down!" she said. Alexander glared at her. She regained her composure.

"I'm sorry. But I can't stand it when people assume things."

"My bad." He corrected.

"If you really want to know. My mother and father both died as pirates, and those barbarians up there took me under." She looked up at the ceiling. "I hate them."

"Why?"

"Do you even know what pirates are like?" she spat. Alexander nodded recalling some memories he had with them.

"Well, you can't imagine how much worse they treat a girl." She shuddered. Alexander stayed quiet.

"I've tried to get away from them. But..." She looked down at her bleeding wrists and sighed.

"So," Alexander said softly. "In a way were quite similar."

"How so?"

"My father condemned me to my fate. And yours, in a way, condemned you as well." Drusilla stared at the boy, who was in reality about the same age as her. A tear rolled down Alexander's face as he saw the pain the girl's eyes. Even though he was a boy, he was still allowed to cry. And besides, it was too dark for even his only companion to see.
