It wasn't as frightening as he had pictured, in fact, it was worse. The pirates were gathered in a semi-circle shape surrounding him as soon as he reached the top deck. They were loud, smelly, rude, and obnoxious. Their clothes were a mix between rags and uniforms. As if at one point in time they tried to look like a put together crew but that was short lived. Alexander took a slow breath in trying to calm his nervous as the pirates swarmed him. Picking at his hair, and his clothes. Like they'd never seen someone like him before. It was quite ridiculous a sight. Then there was a loud smack on the floor of the deck. Suddenly the pirates jumped back into line and moved away from Alexander. Then it was made clear, the sound was made by the man on the left-hand desk, the captain. Alexander began to feel his legs quiver. He'd never been amongst a pirate crew like this before. They were in some ways ridiculous and stupid, like those pirate in cartoons you and I have seen, of course, they were not around in Alexanders time. But in some ways, they were as cruel and as vicious as a lion feasting on his prey. They had dark and twisted minds, and they would kill over even the slightest things. Their captain, Captian Naveen J. Fleting, had a vicious mean streak. Though he seemed collected to Alexander inside, the man was as wily as a fox. He walked across the deck toward Alexander. He paused for a minute. Then spat at the ground near Alexanders feet. His crew hooted and hollered as he pulled out his sword. Now Alexander understood the meaning of this "rally". One of the pirates handed Alexander his own sword and the duel began. The clanking of swords echoed so loudly is could be heard all the way down in the ship's cellar.
"Welcome aboard me matey" Naveen spoke, as if trying to make conversation in this light-hearted event. Alexander paid him no mind and focused on the strokes of his blade. The captain spoke again, a little louder this time.
"Think you actually have a chance at this game do ya?" His crew laughed. But Alexander knew what he was trying to do, distract him. And with his competition, he couldn't afford to misplace even one stroke.
As the duel continued, Alexander was becoming more and more surprised with his own movements. He pursued the captain with full force, pushing him back and back and back. Naveen wasn't shocked, but he was not pleased. The expression on his face gradually began to change from the taunting smile to complete and utter focus. The crew became silent, with an occasional "oooh". After one successful blow pushing Alexander back, the captain had him cornered. With the upper deck of this ship to his left and overboard on his right he had to think fast. He glanced to his left and saw a loose rope attached to one of the sails. The Captain gave a side stroke combo and blocking Alexander jumped then grabbed the rope quickly swinging himself up onto the top deck and out of harm's way. The captain was enraged at this point. Their duel had been going on for longer than he had expected or wanted. Who was this kid? Alexander took a moment to breathe as the captain walked around to the steps of the deck. He walked up pausing several feet from Alexander.
"You're quite the gentleman based on the way you fight. But I regret to tell you that I, am not." Naveen lashed out in one quick slash toward Alexander. He tried but could not hold back the force laid on him, causing Alexander to yield on one knee. Naveen chuckled under his breath.
"Dear boy. Now the question is, do I kill you quickly? Or do I have a little more fun with it...?" He glanced to his crewmen who had sneers of delight on their faces. Alexander, however, did not find this half as amusing.
