Indy watched the four men from the top of the ledge. They slowly fanned out, searching the cavern for him. He picked up the guard's assault rifle and removed a round from the clip. Peeking over the edge to make sure none of the thugs could see where it came from, he threw it as far as he could in a the corner of the room opposite his position.
The shell echoed loudly as it hit the ground. Immediately, the ruffians turned towards the source of the sound and started heading towards it. Indiana Jones smiled as he thought to himself. Predictable. Hired guns with the wit of a liberal politician. He began creeping down the ledge towards the temple, keeping himself hidden as much as possible. Once he reached the floor of the cavern, he began making his way toward the gunmen, who had reached the area where they had thought he was and were slowly fanning out again. He silently crept up behind two of them.
In one swift motion, he swung his pistol in an arc, knocking the first guard unconscious, and then fired two shots into the second one. He slumped to the ground, dead. Upon hearing the shots, his partners turned and laid down a withering barrage of fire. Indy grabbed the fallen gunman's AK-47 and ducked for cover behind a nearby rock formation. He waited for the right time and then returned fire. He managed to wound one of them, hitting him in the shoulder, but then had to take cover again as the remaining thug resumed firing at him.
Suddenly, the cavern went silent except for the moans of the wounded shooter. Just as Indy was about to carefully check if the coast was clear, he heard a distinctive clicking sound which made his blood run cold. Almost at once a grenade came rolling beside him. He immediately scooped it up and threw it back, but it apparently had been set on a short timer. It exploded in the air near his two adversaries, killing them both. However, it was close enough to Indy to send bits of shrapnel flying toward him. Luckily, he had enough time to shield his face with his arms, but both small bits of metal penetrated both of his forearms.
He gingerly picked himself up off of the ground. Blood was trickling down his arms. He walked over to one of the bodies and, wincing, took the jacket off of the corpse. He cut off both sleeves, using them as makeshift bandages. He slowly walked over to the temple's entrance, surprised that the shots and explosions hadn't attracted any more unwanted attention. He reloaded his revolver, just in case, and headed inside.
