Day 76

The day had all the makings of an extremely ugly one as storm clouds pelted the town and more importantly the lacrosse field with rain for more than two hours. The lines that had been meticulously drawn on the sidelines were almost non-existence as the crowd began to filter around the field waiting impatiently for the game to start.

Simeneon stood just outside the locker room where the Impashee lacrosse team prepared for their game with the Locassa Tribe. She began pacing back and forth wondering if she would ever see the relic again.

Marlanda came up behind her and gave her a confident pat on the back. "How are you making out?"

Simeneon sighed. "I've watched our team practice all week and that idiot friend of mine still hasn't figured out how to play the game properly!"

Marlanda couldn't help but laugh out loud. Simeneon looked like she could throw knives with the stare she gave her. Marlanda stopped immediately. It was just as well; for that was the moment the team began to walk out the door and jogged towards the field.

Fin was the last one out the door and Simeneon sighed as she saw him carrying a lacrosse stick that was twice as big as what the other boys were holding. On his head, a rather bulky helmet and the rest of his body was covered in pads and a puffy sweatshirt. He looked like a giant marshmallow man. "They put you in as goalie?" She whispered in alarm.

"They said it was the best possible place for me." He was visibly shaken. "I don't know about this, I'm not used to someone firing a ball at me at fifty miles an hour!"

"You'd be lucky if it was only fifty, I've heard the shots can go up to close to one-hundred."

"Thanks, you're filling me full of confidence." He snorted.

"Sorry just trying to make you realize what you're getting yourself into."

"I KNOW WHAT I'M GETTING MYSELF INTO!!! YOU WOULD BE GOOD TO REMEMBER I'm DOING THIS FOR YOU!!!" He stormed off with Marlanda onto the field leaving Simeneon alone by the locker room.

"I'm sorry." She whispered to herself. "I do appreciate you, one of these days I'll actually tell you how much."

Brock and one of his teammates, a boy named Little Feather walked up to the centerline to meet with the referee and the captains of the other team. The Impashee decked out in blue uniforms while the Locassa tribe in bright red.

"Well if it isn't the idiot!" Gruday said rudely, his teammate, a large-nosed kid who looked like he had been hit in the face with the ball a few times too many times laughed. "You think you'll be able to deal with us, you've got another thing coming."

Brock stepped a few feet forward into the face of Gruday. "You hurt my friends... you're going down hard."

Gruday met Brocks stare, but when Brock wouldn't back down he dropped his head. The two of them watched the two members of the Locassa Tribe walked away bickering. Brock looked at Little Feather and smiled. "They're scared." He said and laughed.

"How can you tell?" Little Feather asked as they made their way to the sidelines and the other members of the Impashee Tribe.

"Just a feeling I get from him. You see the pressures on him, not us. They have everything to lose and only a small amount of gain. We have the advantage, and believe me..." He looked back at Gruday and his friend walking back to their huddle, "...he's going to wish he never toyed with us!"

The whistle blew and the madness began. At the face off in the center of the field, the Locassa Tribes forward won the ball with a whack to the side of the Brocks' leg. As he was distracted another player came around from the backside and smashed him across the head. This left the two players to take off with the ball towards the Impashee goal. Brock stood up quickly his face covered in mud and grass, he gritted his teeth in anger and scampered off after the two.
