It has been a few hours since we gave May the medicine. She had gone back to sleep, but it was less fitful. I took Maxon for a tour of the house, not to show him the rooms, but to share the memories made in them. When we finished, it was early afternoon. Maxon went over to Gerad and got down on one knee. "So, Gerad. Do you like soccer?" Gerad nodded eagerly, happy to have someone to play with.
Maxon looked my way, giving me a flirtatious smile. "Lady America, would you like to join us?" I suppressed a laugh and pretended to be flattered, which I was- slightly. "Of course, Your Highness. It would be my greatest honor to kick your butt in soccer."
"We'll see about that," he chuckled. We all ran to the front yard. I was glad for the exercise, to be outside. The only time I went outside at the palace was to go to the garden. It's been a long time since I've felt so free.
It was Maxon against Gerad and I. Maxon started with the ball and kicked it as hard as he could . The ball sailed down the "field" right to my feet. I dribbled as fast as lightning, but when I tried to move past Maxon, he slid an arm around my waist. He hoisted me off the ground and spun me around. I was laughing up a storm and all I could say was, "No! That's cheating!" Maxon turned my body to his in one fluid motion. I stared into his eyes. They absolutely sparkled. I stood on tiptoe and gave him a slow, longing-filled kiss. He returned it with a desire Aspen had never had. The torch of feelings I had for Aspen lost its heat until it was an ember that barely flickered.
"Ewww!" We broke apart and saw Gerad making a face. Maxon stepped and gave a slight laugh under his breath. He intertwined our fingers and murmurs to himself, "Wow." My pulse raced. Maxon was still intoxicated by our kisses, thrilled by the electricity that was shared between us. So was I.
I realized I must have been silent for long time because both my brother and Maxon. I looked at them and smiled. "Well, are we gonna keep playing or what?"

Later that night, Maxon and I plopped on to my old bed. We settled in and got ready to sleep. I couldn't believe how much arguing it took for my mother to allow us to share a bed. It's not like we're going to do anything. There are children here for God's sake.
I snuggled close and he put an arm around me. We looked at each other in comfortable quiet. I got one last glimpse of his face before drifting off.
