Maxon and I walked around to all the tables. We chatted with his family and I absolutely fell in love with them. They all were so kind and had the best sense of humor.

We finally made it back to our table. There, sat our closest family. My family, Kota included, sat on one side and on the other sat Clarkson, Amberly, and Adele.

I saw Kota sitting there quietly staring at his hands. I had to find out what had happened to him. Maxon saw me looking at Kota and nudged me towards him.

"Kota?"

He turned to me. Kota quirked an eyebrow and I saw some of his natural impishness sneak into his eyes. I couldn't seem to get a good read on him. One minute he was a caring brother. The next, he looked like he was calculating an evil plan.

"What is it America?"

"Can I talk to you for a minute? In private?"

He looked at me curiously, but got up and led me away from the table. I saw him glance at the stage and an odd expression crossed his face. Kota caught me staring and a little red crept to his cheeks. He pulled me to the dance floor.

"Want to dance?" Kota asked. I looked at him warily, but put my hands on his shoulders. We started dancing slowly.

"Kota, I'm going to get right to the point. You used to be an awful, no offense. As soon as you got popular, you took the money and left us to fend for ourselves. You didn't seem to give a damn about us. Now, you come to my wedding. You're acting super sweet and almost like a normal brother. What happened? Why are you suddenly this brand new person?"

He wore a hurt look on his face. His voice was soft as he said, "You thought I didn't care about all of you?"

"Well, yeah," I sighed. "Kota, you just left. You never trie to help us. So, yes. It kind of felt like you deserted us." Kota bowed his head in shame.

"You're right. I was an awful brother. But I do care about you. I think about you all everyday. I regretted my choice as soon as I left. Pride kept me from coming home. I wish you would give me forgiveness even though I don't deserve it."

"Just ask to be forgiven. That's all it takes. But, back to my question. What happened to you?"

A small smile formed on his lips. He wouldn't meet my gaze. My curiosity reached an all time high. Whatever had happened was obviously a big deal to him. I squeezed his shoulder, encouraging him to spit it out.

"I met someone. Someone who has changed me forever. Someone who I think I'm in love with."

Wow. Kota in love? It seemed like a foreign concept to him. She must be pretty amazing to have this kind of effect on him.

"What's her name?" I asked hesitantly. For some reason, my question made him chuckle.

"His name is Desmond."

Wait. Back the hell up. Desmond? As in the Desmond who was up on stage playing the cello? As in Desmond the, the guy?

"Oh," I said slowly, trying to be polite about the mind blowing information he'd just told me. "So you're-"

Smiling, Kota looked up at me. His eyes flickered to Desmond and I saw the love in his eyes. "Yes, America. I'm gay. It's not that big of a deal. Love is love. I'm still the same person, sort of. Des has made me more of a better person than I thought possible. I'm unbelievably lucky to have him."

Kota seemed happier than I'd ever seen him. For that, I was grateful to Desmond. I thought back to what my father had told me earlier.

He loves you and that is the most you can ever ask of anyone.
