When we got to the venue, about fifteen minutes away from my mother's house, fans were lined up for a block or two. It wasn't much compared to some concerts I've been to, but it was definitely impressive for a band that had only been a band for nearly four months. Fans started screaming when the van pulled up. Security ran out to help us get in without being mobbed by 12 years old fangirls. Vic looked back at me.
"Kellin, switch jackets with me. They'll go after you with that bright yellow hoodie thinking you're one of us. Also, everyone is looking to find my soul mate. Put the hood up and keep your head down." He looked serious, and I wonder what fans could possibly do to me that's so horrible. But I didn't ask questions when he handed me his black jacket. I quickly took off my hoodie and got on Vic's jacket in record time.
But it wasn't fast enough. Mike, who was sitting with me in the very back, watched as I took off my hoodie. I heard his sharp intake of breath. I turned to look at him and I saw that look of knowing in his eyes. Mouthing "We'll talk later," we jumped out of the van and ran toward the building the concert would take place, and I didn't even acknowledge I saw him. As soon as we got out of the craziness, Vic came over to me, tangling my fingers with his own, and leading us to the dressing room.
The two opening acts were sharing a dressing room, and since we were running a little late, the guys of All Time Low were already in there messing around, waiting for A Day To Remember to finish their sound check. Jack was the first to see me.
"Kellin! Hey!" Jack said, running over to give me a hug.
"Hey." I grinned at his hyperness. He must be so fun to hang out with a lot.
"So, uh, don't take this the wrong way, but I did tell you you didn't have to be here for another hour. We still have sound check and other things to do to get ready. And aren't you supposed to be with your soul mate? You did meet them, right?" Jack's eyes looked a little concerned. The fact that we've barely met, yet he treats me like a best friend, made my grin even wider.
"Oh, don't worry. I met him, and things went great." I told while holding up our still intertwined hands. Jack's jaw dropped in shock.
"Holy shit! No way! I don't believe this!" The commotion Jack made was enough to make everyone in the room stare at us, including both of the band's tour managers and the photographer. A guy with a pink stripe in his hair made his way over to Jack, grabbing his hand. What? Weren't Jack and Zack together?
"What's up, Jacky?" The guy looked over at the two of us.
"The kid there? He's the one I was telling you about who loves PTV and ADTR! And now he's Vic's soul mate!" He looked very surprised for a second, then put the hand that Jack wasn't holding out to shake my free hand.
"I'm Alex. I'm the singer for All Time Low. I see you've already met my soul mate, as it seems..." He looked friendly and kind, but my brain was whirling with this new information? Why were Jack and Zack doing things today? Does Alex know about it?
Before I could say anything, a security guard came in. "All Time Low? Sound check time!" Immediately they walked out of the room, leaving just me and Pierce the Veil. All the guys seemed to be doing their own thing for the moment. Jaime and Vic looked like they were starting to do pushups and curl ups and just general stretching. Tony was next to them on a couch, smiling at his phone. Mike was on the other side of the room, playing beats on his jeans. It seemed like he liked to keep to himself a lot. I think he intimidated people sometimes, but I was definitely not scared of him. I walked over and sat on the carpet floor next to him.
"Hey." I gave a nervous smile.
"Hi." He responded. We stayed quiet for a few minutes, until he spoke again. Just one word. "Why?"
