"Hey," Harley started, "do you mind if we talk?" She'd asked quietly.
"I don't mind at all. Do you mind me asking what about?" (Name) responded.
"Have you ever been in love?" Harley asked.
"Yes, a few times, I have."
Looking down at her hands, the blond started to feel nervous, "Would you mind sharing? What it was like, I mean." The question caught her off guard.
"Uh... Um... No? I don't mean to be rude. I'm really just... not comfortable in sharing. It's just, that... Well it's... It's just complicated." She stumbled over her words, desperately trying to find the right words and desperately failing. As much as Harley would have loved to probe the subject, she could kind of understand it being complicated.
"It's ok, sorry I asked." Harley got up and seemed to bounce back into her cheery façade.
That small conversation may have been odd, but every conversation with (Name) had been. After she'd revealed Waller's intent, that is. They'd tried asking her about several things she'd said. No one had gotten a real answer. The best they'd gotten was a few words or a phrase, ultimately avoiding the question. Odd behavior, yes, yet it stuck Harley as odd that Delilah never questioned it, as if she knew or didn't care. Either way, she wasn't fond of the secrecy and intended to get some information on her. Something, anything!
She may have been willing to let the love thing slide, but there were to many questions left unanswered.
After a few endless days, Waller was finally willing to let them in on what they were to do.
She explained to them that they'd form a team, not quite like the Suicide Squad. They'd act more like con artists, rather than assassins and thieves. Waller said she'd assemble them whenever she needed them and though they'd love to complain, half of them were prisoners and wouldn't be given a choice. The other half didn't seem to care much.
They had gone through with the job and completed it without much difficulty. Harley hadn't accomplished her one goal during the job. She considered it her mission to find out something about (Name). It frustrated her how she was being defeated by someone who wasn't trying, someone who wasn't aware of the situation.
"Why do you look so disappointed, Little Miss Crazy?" Floyd had broken her train of thought with his question. Harley pointed to a certain (colour) haired female, "She avoids any conversation talking about herself. I wanna know what she has to hide."
"Hm... Have you thought of recruiting help?" She wasn't quite sure how to respond, the thought had crossed her mind. If only for a few moments before being discarded.
"Would you like to help me?" Was the only thing she could think to say.
And so they teamed up, gaining the help from a certain unicorn fanatic. Over the next few missions they'd tried to gain information on her without her knowledge.
The task proved much more challenging than expected.
They'd attempted accessing her personal information (hospital records, social media, etc.), checking Waller's file on her, talking to anyone who may know her, other than Delilah and Orion. They couldn't access her hospital records, she didn't have social media, she might as well have been off the grid. They couldn't get Waller's file, and no one knew anything about her. It's as if she was a ghost.
Their search had gotten them some unwanted attention by Waller and Delilah, however, our protagonist was none the wiser. Delilah was the one to question their 'mission', she found it amusing. She refused to help them, seeing as she had many of the answers they were looking for.
Waller couldn't care less about their search, but refused to aid them in their 'childish and useless' mission. Waller told them to ask (Name) what they'd wanted to know.
They hadn't learned a single thing about her. They were beginning to believe she didn't exist.
"You know, Waller's right if you want to know about her, just ask her. She won't bite." Delilah reminded them.
"Yeah, but she can shoot." Harkness replied.
"She won't. I know her better than most, I'm the closest she has to family, I'm her best friend. I would know. If you guys don't man up and ask her, I'll do it for you."
"What if she doesn't tell us anything?" A certain blond asked.
"Then you pester the shit out her until she does. Now go." After demanding they ask (Name) about herself, they didn't do as told. The three just sat there and looked at her like she had three heads.
"Fine. Want something done, you do it yourself." She muttered. "(NAME)!" The redheaded woman shouted.
"Yeah?" She yelled as she walked towards them.
"They have questions for you."
"Oh, boy. What would you like to ask?" She didn't get an answer. Floyd, Harley, and Harkness looked at each other, not uttering one word. The Pirateare elbowed Harkness, forcing him to speak up.
"You... We have questions for you."
"So I've heard." After a few moments of awkward silence, the energetic girl was the one to speak up.
"Our questions are about you. You always avoid questions about yourself. You know about us and we think we should know about you."
(Name) hesitated, before asking what they'd like to know. Harley spoke up immediately, asking questions in reference to her earlier questions.
"What was it like when you loved them? What did it feel like to be loved? Why don't you want to talk about it?"
