Julie's POV:
I was sitting on a stool at my kitchen counter. I listened quietly as the metal on my shoes knocked against the metal on the stool, making a slight dinging noise. I was always drawn to noise. Anything that made noise always caught my interest, even if it was static on the radio it always made me feel a sense of safety. I sat watching the steam from my cup of tea rise until you couldn't see it anymore. My moms soothing voice drawed me out of my thoughts. " Julie, will you turn on the news for me please? Your grandmother just called and said it was urgent. " I nodded in response and got up from my seat. I went over to the tv turning it on, and then switching the channels to the local news. "Another tradgedy today, the small town of the glades has been attacked. This has caused great devastation. All have lost their homes and many families have turned up dead. When will this madness end?" Says the news anchor. My mom lets out a great sigh. "This is the third time this week, and the attacks keep getting closer to us." My mom said. She looked at me and with a serious tone said something I've heard for days. "I think you need to go to the hills." I nodded my head no. "I'm not leaving you here by yourself, I'm not running for safety." I said. "Julie, I am your mother and you will do as I say. This is for the best, if you stay here any longer you are putting yourself at risk." She said glaring at me and picking up my cup of tea. She turned her back to me starring out the kitchen window. "I'm not going to loose you like I lost dad." I say on the break of tears. We lost my father just a few months ago, when some terrorists attacked his work. "I know this is hard for you to do sweetheart but you have to go. The last bus comes to pick all the minors up tonight. If you don't go you are basically asking for a death wish!" My mom says and let's a tear slip. She wipes it away with her hand and shakes her head. Seeing my mom like this was heart wrenching. I nodded my head knowing their was no way I was getting out of this one. "Go pack, the bus will be here in a hour." She said quietly then disappearing into the living room.
The hour passed before I knew it did, I realized I was standing at the door. I took one last look around my house not knowing when or if I would ever come back. I let a few tears slip and I wiped them with my jacket sleeve. My mom came out of her room and waked towards me. Her eyes red, her cheeks were stained with tears. She was shaking as she grabbed my hands. I took a hold of her hand and squeezed it tight. She them embraced me in a tight hug that felt like it lasted a lifetime. "I love you so much, and I will see you soon I promise. This is only temporary." She said and I nodded. I picked up my bag and threw it over my shoulder. "I want you to have this." She said and unhooked her necklace from around her neck. "No mom I can't take that, it's dads wedding ring." She took my hand and placed the necklace in it. "You have to, just know your father loves you very much." I nodded biting my lip, trying not to let out a whimper. I opened up my front door. The crisp autumn air nipped at my nose sending chills down my spine. I slowly walked down the steps. I saw from afar the bus pulling down my street, just like it use to every morning for school. Its yellow paint chipped, the schools name on the side was rubbed off. It stopped at the end of my street and I knew I had to go. Multiple kids were doing the same as I. We all slowly walked towards the dreaded bus. I watched as the girl in front of my carried her crying brother on her hip. She was struggling to carry him because he was almost as tall as her. I watched as he slowly stopped crying and she put him down once we reached the bus. I looked back down my street and waved goodbye to my mother, and took once last glance as she walked back inside of a place I used to call home.
