"Where are we going?" I asked Jungkook as he kept on dragging somewhere I don't know.
"Just.. walk. We're almost there." He said full of happiness and excitement.
Oh! I forgot to tell you. I'm blindfolded and Jungkook's my only guide on each step I take. He better not let go of my hand or I'll kill him if I fall. He did this to me in the first place.
He stopped in his tracks so I did also. "Are we there yet?" I asked impatiently.
"Uh-huh. We're here."
"Well... what are you waiting for? Take this blindfold off of me."
"Patience, Chae. Patience." Then I felt his hand slowly getting loose from my hold until he's completely gone.
"Yah! Jeon Jungkook! Don't leave me here! Let me remind you that all I can see is pitch black right now." I yelled at him.
"You're such a scandalous girl. I'm just here, infront of you. I won't be leaving you. Gosh, you're so clingy." He teased. "Okay... at the count of three, take off of the blindfold, ara?" I nodded.
"One.."
"Two..."
"Two and a half..."
"Two and a quarter..."
"JUNGKOOK!" I somewhat got irritated.
He laughed at my retort. "Mian. I just feel like teasing you. Okay. Three."
I quickly removed the cloth that's been keeping me unable to see for quite some time. I was about to scold him for doing this to me until...
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHAEYOUNG!" everyone's greeting welcomed me. I got frozen for seconds, still processing what's happening.
"Happy Birthday to our one and only girl." Seokjin oppa came in front of me while holding a bunny-shaped cake and two lit candles on it. "Make a wish before you blow." I nodded and followed his command.
After I blew the candles, everyone cheered and clapped.
"Let's get the party started!" Hoseok oppa announced and the music starts booming.
I looked around and all I can feel is relaxation and peace. Trees everywhere, a crystal clear lake can be seen flowing in peaceful manner, birds chirping on the trees and in the sky. They did my birthday celebration in a not so far part of a forest.
I sat on one of the blankets lying on the ground and observed everyone. There they are, looking so happy and all. Despite of having different schedules, some are even horribly busy with their own stuffs, but they manage to throw me a surprise party. I wonder how I deserve people like them.
"Enjoying the party?"
"Oh! Changkyun. You're here."
"Ne. Sorry I'm late. My team and I got a little too into the case and we kinda lose track of time."
"Hehehe. Gwaenchana. At least you still came."
"Of course. Wouldn't miss this."
Silence then hit us.
"Oh!" He shuffled in his seat, fishing something in his pocket. "Happy birthday." He gave me a small box. "I'm sorry in advance for my present. I don't know what you like. I just saw that one day when I'm at the mall and you're the first person I thought of when I saw that."
"Nonsense. I'll like whatever it is. Thank you." I gave him a hug then opened his present. "Omo!! I like this!!! Thank you so so much." It's a bunny necklace.
"Glad you like it." He smiled, showing his eye smile.
Changkyun and I became great friends since the day the incident happened. I always call him for updates but everytime I do, his response are all the same, still no lead or no new information. That's why, little by little, I started to lose hope and I finally gave up not long after. I know I'm such a dumbass for doing that but what can I do? If there aren't any more evidence, why would I still tell them to continue? Even his parents gave up so I decided that it's time for me to accept the truth. I tried to move on and live a life I had before this happened.
Since then, Changkyun and I got along well together. We often hangout together with my friends and I'm glad that they eventually became friends too. Changkyun is such a good guy, even if I told him to stop, that it's already fine, he still keeps on investigating for my sake. I somehow owe my life to him until he finds out who killed Namjoon.
"Chae.."
"Hm?"
He handed me something, kinda looks like a letter. "Hyunwoo, my teammate, gave me this. He said someone is looking for me to give this but I'm not around that time so he received it for me. The guy told him that this is for you."
I took it from him and observed it. It looks exactly the same as the one I saw from my locker before.
"What does he look like? I mean, the guy who gave your teammate this."
"He said he can't fully see because he's wearing a mask and a sunglasses. In short, the guy is fully covered. And he also told me that after he gave him this, he quickly left."
"Oh..."
I eyed the piece of paper again, hesitating if I should open it or not.
"Don't open it if you're not sure of what's inside it." He reminded me.
"It's fine, Changkyun. How can a piece of paper be so harmful?"
"Paper cut?"
"Funny. Very funny." I retorted. "I think I'll just open it when I get home. Thank you for sending this." I put it beside me.
"Let's go join the others. It's your party yet you're just sitting here. Come on." He stood up and offered his hand so I can stand up too.
I brushed off the dirt on my skirt. "You go ahead, I'll follow."
"Ok." he started walking towards the others while I bend a little to put my stuffs, including the letter, inside my bag.
I stood up straight, slung my bag on my shoulder and started walking to join the fun.
While walking, I imagine him walking beside me, our hands intertwined together, while him telling me 'Happy Birthday' over and over again in my ears. His voice is so deep yet calming that I don't mind him doing that.
Happy first birthday, Jimae.
First birthday without him.
