Chapter 8

- Zach's POV -

Right after Edwin came back to the waiting room and told us Ashlynn is all set to go, I took her from his arms since he also had to hold the papers and medicine. We all headed out to the car and Edwin called Maddie back:

"Is everything set up?" He asked quietly, so Ashlynn wouldn't hear.

"Yep, all the games and decorations are ready, and we have a cake here too. It's all set. Y'all coming back?"

"Yeah we're just leaving now. See everyone in a bit." And with that, he hung up.

"It's all ready guys, woo partayyy!" Edwin screamed, before Ashlynn asked him,

"What's ready?"

"Oh, just uhh...my mom bought me this shirt I really wanted and she's gonna send it to me." We all laughed at his lame cover up before getting in the car. Nick was driving, Madeline in the passenger seat, Edwin and Kylee in the captain seats, and me with Ashlynn on my lap in the very back.

Soon after we left the hospital, Ashlynn fell asleep on my lap. She still has on her red pjs (shorts and short sleeve top), but a lilac colored hospital gown with Disney Princesses over them. (picture of hospital gown at top/beginning of chapter; note that isn't what Ashlynn looks like)

Ashlynn soon woke up and began to cough heavily; she couldn't stop.

"Ash, cough in your arm." I whispered to her, just so no one else would get sick. She nodded then proceeded coughing, trying to stop.

Finally, after about 2 minutes, her coughing stopped. Then she said to me, in a soft voice,

"My tummy hurts Uncle Zach. And my throat." Before frowning.

I then offered to rub her stomach and throat for her, and she nodded. I first lightly rubbed the front of her neck and below her chin, hoping that would help to ease the pain a bit. After a few minutes, I then lightly rubbed her stomach. After a few minutes she fell asleep, so I stopped.

We finally arrived at home, and I shook her slightly,

"Ashlynn, we're home." I whispered, before she woke up and sat up on my lap. I picked her up and got out of the car after Edwin. This reminded me of when we first adopted her and got home; we sat in the very back together, and I carried her inside. Oh how time flies.

We walked inside and found Rudan, Maddie, Kenz, and Timmy all sitting in the family/living room watching Spongebob.

"Hey Ash!" Maddie said, before I set down Ashlynn and she ran over to give her a hug.

"How are you feeling?" 

"A little better. My tummy hurts but not as much as earlier. Uncle Zach rubbed it for me."
