Chapter 8- Why guilty?

[Needs a little editing. Read at your own risk.]

I don't even wanna think about it. What we went through was...what we went through was the worst thing a teenager could go through at just the age of 17. I really don't wanna tell them what happened. Well half of what happened. Half of it they already know. And why should I? They wouldn't be asking us this question if they were there with us in the hospital.

" Guys, what the hell are you two talking about?" Zack asked again. His face was totally serious.

There was no way I was gonna tell them what happened. But Gaby had some other ideas. She opened her mouth for explaning but I quickly stopped her. "We don't owe you guys an explanation! If you guys were there then you wouldn't be asking us this question." Then I took a deep breath and finally said, "And no, we will not be going to your party thingy with you assholes! Find some one who wants to go. I'm sure there would be thousand girls lining up to go with you! ". With that I got up and pulled Gaby along with me as we headed outside without a second glance at the assholes. They were too shocked with my little outburst to even follow us.

Just as we stepped outside I realised that the assholes were our ride. Ignoring that I called a taxi. We hopped in, told the driver our address and went home.

Gaby didn't even try to argue. She was quiet the whole ride. I also didn't want to break the silence. We reached home, paid the driver, got off the taxi and went inside our cozy little apartment.

Both of us were really tired so we straight away went into our rooms without saying anything. I changed into my pajamas and got into bed.

I was still angry at the assholes. They wanted to use us? How dare they? And gaby? When she was almost dying the assholes couldn't even call and check up with us about her and she was defending them? Sometimes I am so angry at Gaby that I just... just.... do something!

These were the last thoughts as I slowly drifted off to sleep...

---

This is getting irritating! It's been four days since we, well I, denied the assholes and shouted at them and walked out on them along with Gaby and have been ignoring them. And the irritating part is that Gaby is feeling guilty for a thing that she had no part in.

She has not started her internship at the hospital as the hospital has still not opened (reason in chapter two). So she has been at home along with me ever since. I, on the other hand, got a job offer at a small interior designing company. It's just an internship but a start is a start. My job starts from Monday and the hospital is also opening on Monday but I have no idea whether Gaby is going or not.

When I go out of my room to make myself something to eat, I find Gaby sitting on the couch infront of the TV, watching some animal hunting show. Now this is a part of what I find irritating.

Sometimes I wonder why I don't feel guilty. Because I really don't. Not even a bit. And now I feel guilty because Gaby is sad and I can't do any thing about it.

Hmmm...let's see... What does Gaby do when I'm sad....

Wait, I got it! Why hadn't I thought of this before?

---

It was not at all easy to convince Gaby but once she saw my awesome puppy dog face, how could have she said no.

So, we entered the mall and headed straight towards the food court. Hey, I was hungry! Gaby was trying her best to get cheered up but the guilt was still killing her.

I still don't get it. Why is she feeling guilty? Shouldn't I feel guilty? After all I was the one who denied them. In fact, nobody should even feel guilty. They deserved that! If they think they can just take us out for a dinner and ask us to do a favour for them, then they definately don't know us!

We reached the food court. It was a little crowded but we were able to find a place for us to sit. I asked Gaby what she wanted to eat and went to order it.

When I came back with our order I found Gaby laughing and chatting with some blond girl who look our age. She had her back toward me so I couldn't see her face. It seemed like they knew each other for a long time.

Acting like I hadn't seen her I went towards the table. As I reached it I saw the girl's face. She was beautiful and really familiar. But I couldn't put my finger on where I had seen her.

"Hey, Claire! Guess who I bumped into while I was going to the lady's room?" Gaby asked all cheerfully.

I looked at the blonde again. Wait.. no it couldn't be. But she looks exactly like her. No, it's been almost four years since I last saw her.

"Oh my God! Is that... Emily!!" She nodded giving me a huge smile and then we hugged.

Emily was one of our best friends when we were in high school. But she disapered half a year before graduation and we lost contact. We were the three musketeers, as everyone liked to call us. We were like the best friends. No one could seperate us.

And here we are four years later, meeting again. Thinking of meeting again, I just realised something.

"Guys, it's 12th July today." The look on their faces were really funny when I said that.

The thing with 12th July was that in middle school we had made a pact that on 12th July ten years later we would meet somewhere no matter where we were or how we were. We had not decided the place where we would meet but I guess we didn't need to.

It was really fun meeting Emily again after so long. When we asked her what she was doing in London she said that she was visiting her aunt here.

After some shopping she had a phone call from her aunt. After she hung up she told us, "My aunt wants me to marry soon so she set me up with this guy whom I have to meet up at a party tonight. Wanna join?"

"Your aunt wants you to marry so soon? That too an arranged marriage? But you're only 21!" Gaby exclaimed. Emily nodded her head.

Gaby doesn't belive in arranged marriage. But nowdays who does? I mean, these romance novels have eaten up our brains saying that Mr. Right will someday come in our lives and sweep us off our feet and then we'll happily ever after. Yeah, right!

"So do you guys wanna come with me? Please!" She asked again.

I looked at Gaby as she looked at me. We had nothing to do today plus it's a Friday night.

"We would love to!" Gaby was all exited when she said that. Well, at least it'll take her mind off of the assholes for some time.

"Thank you so much!!" Emily almost shouted. "Shit! Now we'll have to roam the mall all over again to look for a dress for us to wear! Well, I'm fine with that. Now let's go!"

Oh God! Not again. You see, unlike me, Gaby and Emily were huge fans of shopping.

Yay! I will buy another new dress! Note the sarcasm.

God, help!
