It was the day of the baseball match and Ruby and Sapphire were flirting endlessly, which aroused some suspicion with the Rubies. When everything takes a turn for the worse and Sapphire is kidnapped and taken back to Homeworld, how will everyone rea...

The Crystal Gems landed on Homeworld and Ruby led the way in pursuit of their missing member.
"Ruby," Pearl caught her attention, "You go ahead. We'll deal with the gems".
Ruby nodded and then sprinted away to find her partner. She searched everywhere, yet she was nowhere to be seen. She was about to turn in a completely different direction when something whimpered softly.
She spun around, and instantly wished she hadn't. Her hands covered her mouth in shock, edging towards her girlfriend.
In a cramped, glass box sat Sapphire. She was as thin as paper, breakable as ice. The diamonds had transformed her into a complete wreck.
She saw that she was using something to scrape her hand and as she got closer, the realisation kicked in. "Sapphire!"
A short, red gem pounded on the glass, shouting her name. Sapphire looked up slowly and discovered that it was a Ruby. Sapphire was amazed at how brave this Ruby was; her consequences would be severe if her Diamond found out what she was doing.
The glass smashed instantly, obliterating into a million pieces. She snatched the glass away from Sapphire and cupped her bony face within her hands, tears stinging in her eyes. "What have they done...." She gazed into her inflated eye, then brought her into an embrace. "We'll get you back to Earth, okay?" Ruby reassured her. The stare that Sapphire gave her in response was dull, unaware and it chilled her to the bone.
In no time, the rest of the gang had arrived. They gaped and gasped at the state of the gem that Ruby was escorting to their ship. She placed her safely in one of the seats and awaited the arrival of the remainder of the Crystal Gems.
She was taken onto a ship which quickly speeded off into the cosmos. A collection of gems were staring at her in a worrisome way. She wanted to panic, to fight off her new kidnappers. She was fully aware that every second, she was edging further away from her diamond, from her home.
Peridot was the first to realise that Sapphire's gem was cracked. She pointed at the damage, which sent waves of panic through the gang of rebels.
"What do we do?" Ruby shrieked, voicing everyone's worries. She scanned the ship helplessly, but there was nothing that could help her. She once again held Sapphire in a gentle hug, gently sobbing into her curls.
"You're going to be okay Sapphire, don't worry," she sighed, "You're going to be okay."

Steven spat on his hand and rubbed it onto the cracked gem. It lit up, and the crack slowly vanished. There was a resounding cheer. While everyone was disappointed with the fact that the healing process did not transform her back into her normal, happy self, the whole crew agreed that they were glad they saved her from Homeworld's unforgiving grasp.
"I'm so glad you're here again!" Ruby beamed, planting a kiss on her forehead. Sapphire stared at her blankly.
"Um, can we have a minute?" The red gem asked the crowd that had gathered around them. The group parted, awkwardly shuffling away.
Ruby squeezed Sapphire's hand and gave her a concerned look as she began to speak:
"Okay, Sapphire. I know this may be a touchy subject, and I know you aren't going to feel better straight away, but it's like you're not even in there any more. I want to make things better, please tell me how."
No answer.
"Maybe fusing into Garnet would make you feel better?"
Ruby thought she saw a glint in her eye as she said that, so she took that as a yes.
She stood up, hoisting Sapphire to her feet. She carefully spun her around and she felt them intertwining. She drew herself close into her partner as their fusion began to appear.
The beautiful Garnet formed, and she stretched after her long, horrible wait to exist again. But as she moved, sharp crystals jarred her body, piercing her gruesomely. Her form shifted and shook, before eventually falling apart again.
Ruby hit the floor. She felt terribly overwhelmed with guilt and shame: fusion was not the answer.
Sapphire was lying there, staring emotionally into space.
As always, she was a million miles away.

"I brought you some cookies". Ruby climbed the steep hill that Sapphire had sat upon for the last 2 years. The efforts anyone made to persuade her to come back to the temple were unheard.
"They all want to poof you," Ruby broke the silence, sitting down next to the gem, "Well, they don't want to, but they think it's best".
Sapphire's condition had definitely improved; in fact, she looked almost normal again. She had gained a sufficient amount of weight, all the scars had healed themselves and bruises had faded. Her eye was as healthy as ever.
There was only one feature about her that had not changed in 2 years; her iris was a dried out grey colour.
"I mean, can you just talk to me?" Ruby was trying to suppress her anger, but it was overtaking her.
Sapphire turned to look at Ruby, her neck cracking due to the lack of use. Ruby widened her eyes, waiting for a response.
For a split second, her eye became a vibrant blue, and Ruby could see her reliving every moment they ever shared together. It was beautiful while it lasted. In another moment, the colour drained out of her eye and she turned back to look at the sun.
Ruby fizzled with anger and regret and sadness and hopelessness. She hung her head in shame, letting tears escape her gloomy eyes.
She felt a hand on her shoulder. It was Pearl.
"I know." Ruby mumbled, her voice dry and dead.
On a lone hill, Ruby ended her girlfriend's suffering. She poofed her and held her gem with her shaking hands. She broke down, leaving Pearl to bubble her and send her to the temple.
The last thing she saw was the spellbinding sunset. The vibrant gradients it created were fascinating; she wish she could have stayed on Earth longer. But, Blue Diamond would be waiting for her back at the Base, so Sapphire welcomed the blow from one of the rebels. Soon she would regenerate on Homeworld, and she would be praised for the knowledge she acquired on them.
But for the moment, she didn't care about her orders.
Because right now?
She could breathe.
