Chapter 24

(Maria's POV) 

"Sit down here. We'll call you back when ready." The officer said

"Great." I muttered under my breath.

I sat on the cold hard plastic chair as I waited for them to call my name.

I can't believe  the cops were called. We had barely started fighting. 

FLASHBACK

I jumped on her as soon as the words left her mouth. She was on the ground and I had started punching her in the gut and face. She somehow rolled me over and started the same. I kicked her off and had an advantage. She hit her head on the ground and started bleeding. It slowed her down a bit but then she started fighting back again.

I was ontop of her when the cops pulled up so I was the one who was arrested.

When I was put in the car I asked the cop who was in the passenger seat who had called.

"A concerned janitor." He said lowly and gruffly.

I rolled my eyes and fell back on the seat. 

END OF FLASHBACK

"Maria Walsh!" I stood up and walked over to the barred window.

"You have one phone call." She said a slid a quarter under the window.

I nodded. 

The police officer came over and un cuffed me. 

I rubbed my wrists and grabbed the quarter off the counter.

I walked over to the phone and thought about who exactly I could call.

Jason was the only person who popped into my mind.

"Ugh!" I put the quarter in the slot and dialed his number.

*Ring *Ring.

"hello!?" He yelled through the phone.

I cleared my throat.

"Hey Jason."

"Maria! I can explain everything!" He shouted again.

"Yeah well I don't have time for that. Im calling you with my one phone call at the police station."

"What? How the hell did you get arrested?" He asked.

"I †ell you later. Can you pleases just bring me bail?"

The line went silent.

"Yeah. Give me thirty minutes. I have to walk there."

"K." I said then hung up the phone.

As soon as I hung up I was gabbed by two officers and paraded into a cell.

"You can wait here until your bail arrives." He said as He slammed it shut and locked the door.

I looked around the cell and saw different types of people. 

chicks with tats. Chick with a biker jackets. Girls like me. And one that looked like a mom.

I sat down on the ground and waited until Jason arrived. 

I zoned out for a little bit as the biker chick and mom started arguing.

It seemed like forever but he finally got to the station. 

I was taken out of the cell and walked into the front. 

He was standing there with a wrinkled shirt and pants. His hair a mess. 

When I saw his face I immediately got pissed. 

He paid bail. Signed a few papers and we walked out of the door.

It was silent for a couple of minutes then Jason spoke.

"So how exactly did you get arrested?" He asked with a smirk.

"I beat up that whore." I said very matter of factly.

His smile faded.

"What whore? Hannah!?"

"YES! HANNAH! THE GIRL YOU CHEATED ON ME WITH!" I yelled back.

He stood then mumbled something.

"What was that?" I asked.

"I didn't cheat on you." He said quietly.

"Y- you didn't?" 

"NO! WHY WOULD I DO THAT!? I love you Maria!" He yelled.

This time I was speechless.

"Then w- who is Hannah?" I asked.

"She's my ex from the foster home. She got adopted when I was fifteen and promised to keep in touch. We never did. Then she heard I moved up here and tried to get ahold of me. I guess she was thinking we could pick up where we left off." He said.

"Well she said it was the second time you guys have met up." I said.

"Yeah the foster home would have been the first. We had. Y'know. It while we were there. It meant nothing." 

He said that and my heart dropped.

"But it's over, right?" I asked him

He nodded.

"Good." I said with a smile.

He pulled me in for a hug and we stopped for a second.

"I love you." He whispered in my ear.

"I love you too." I said into his chest. 

We began walking hand in hand back to the mall parking lot. 

I looked up at Jason and couldn't help but feel bad. 

But it was okay now. I know he loves me.
