The lunch bell rang. I took off my bass and set it back in its stand. We had just finished polishing up "Heart Attack." I caught up with Summer and we walked to our lockers.

"Your vocals were really good today!" Summer complimented me. She opened her locker.

"Thanks, what did you bring for lunch?" I asked, opening my locker and taking out my five dollars that I needed to buy lunch.

"Cucumber and cream cheese sandwich on wheat bread." She smiled.

"Ew. I hate that you're a vegetarian now."

"Hey," she said, slamming her locker shut, "I was a decision I felt was important for me to make. I really care about how I eat and what I eat now. Plus, meat makes me sick anyways."

I did a loud gasp, "Don't ever say such things about meat like that."

Summer rolled her eyes and shut my locker for me, we walked over to the cafeteria and I got in the lunch line. Summer used to order lunch, but she doesn't anymore because of her new vegetarian diet. I picked up a chocolate milk and set it on my tray. As the lunch lady scooped some Mac and Cheese on my plate, I turned over to Summer.

"What are you doing after school today?"

"I have a debate club meeting. Why do you ask?"

"Well I was going to ask if you wanted to come over and help me with my pre-algebra homework, but I guess you're busy. Why do you have to be so involved?"

"If I want to get into Harvard I have to work hard and have lots of extracurricular activities."

"But you're only in middle school."

"Better to start early."

I rolled my eyes and payed for my lunch. I followed Summer to table where Freddy was already sitting at. Summer had a major crush on Freddy, and it was obvious. But he didn't know.

I set my tray down at the table. "Hi Freddy." I said, sitting down.

He didn't give a response. I looked over to see that he had an earbud in each ear and the music was so loud, I could clearly hear it. I reached over and yanked the one in his left ear out.

"I said 'Hello Freddy.' You're supposed to respond... And plus why do you have earbuds anyways... They're banned from being used during school hours."

"I've never been one to follow the rules." He shrugged.

"That's true." I said and took my fork and shoved a fork-ful of whatever the slop on my plate was into my mouth. Tasted like... Green beans?

Zack joined our table a few seconds later.

"Does anyone know what this is?" He asked, pointing to the pile of whatever I just forked into my mouth on his plate.

"They taste like green beans." I said.

"They are green beans. The lunch lady, Maizy, told me and said not to let Brenda put any on my plate." Freddy added. I instantly spit out the what was in my mouth, into my napkin.

"Who's Maizy... And Brenda?"

"Maizy if the older, thinner lunch lady with the grey hair and pink glasses. Brenda is the big lunch lady with the mole above her lip. Maizy is head lunch lady." Freddy said.

"How do you know the lunch ladies so well?"

"They think I'm adorable..."

"Well they're not wrong..." Summer said quietly. Freddy turned to her.

"Did you say something?" He asked her. She shook her head "No" and he quickly brushed it off. That boy was clueless.

"So, Summer, how's the vegetarian life treating you?" Zack asked Summer.

"Excellent, actually." She said, taking the last bite of her cucumber sandwich. Lawrence walked by our table, but quickly turned back around to say something to us.

"Hey guys. I'm really sorry but Esme wants me to sit with her and her friends today." He said really fast and all in one breath.

"It's cool dude, go be with your girl friend." Freddy smiled.

Lawrence let out a sigh of relief. "Thanks guys!" He said before briskly walking away and over to a table with Esme and a few different girl and guys.

"So, Lawrence and Esme... Pretty serious?" I asked.

"I don't know, how many dates have they been on?" Summer asked.

"Two." Zack replied.

"Then I think not." Summer said, adding a little attitude to her next few movement to prove her point.

"I think they are pretty serious." Freddy said.

"They are totally serious!" Summer said instantly agreeing with Freddy despite what he just said.

"Did you just say that you thought they weren't serious?" Freddy asked, confused.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Summer said, smiling sweetly. Freddy stared at her for a second and her went back to eating his lunch.

I always found it cute that Summer has such a big crush on Freddy. I think it's sweet that she wants to impress him. I wonder if they'll ever be together someday. I mean, if they get tighter in the near future, and Lawrence and Esme are still together, then that would leave Zack and I as the only single ones. But I just don't think I could ever see myself liking Zack, right?
