chapter ten — a good kind of surprise

That was it. He never came back to her. Even after three years ... not even one call. Camila seemed to move on, quickly than ever. Shawn however, he hated himself. Camila was the only person who made him feel like someone who belonged in this world. How could he let go of her? She was a girl like none other.

Maybe, life wasn't for everyone. Shawn got into a habit of drinking, and somehow got lost and regretted every decision he had ever made. Meanwhile the girl of his dreams was persuing her dream into becoming a writer—and being the top fifty best authors of the year.

For sure, she wished he had come back. But maybe because he didn't, it somehow, some way, made her life a little easier.

"There is no way I am going back to him, Mama." Camila spoke softly, a sarcastic chuckle slipping from her lips as she shook her head. Her lips were parted, the crease showing prominently which had shown that she was frowning a bit. "He—he left me, and I don't want to go back to him."

Sinu sighed, grabbing Camila's hands. "Let me ask you one thing, darling." The younger girl nodded, swallowing from unease. Honestly, Shawn and Sinu had an unforgettable friendship with each other. But she couldn't accept the fact that Shawn left—she knew it had to be for a reason. "Do you love him, still?"

In defeat and guilt, Camila nodded and pursed her lips. "I do, I just—I don't want things to end up wrong again. He screwed up the last time. What if .. he does it again?"

"There will be no guarantee that he won't." Sinu raised an eyebrow, exhaling while she looked down. But there was time. And time healed everything. "But you love him. Right? Isn't that what you do or feel for him?"

"Yes."

"And that's the point, Mila. Love takes work, it takes healing and time. You need to be able to know that." Her mother replied, with sincere eyes and a a heart-warming smile. Tears clouded Camila's vision, her eyes begging to shut. "Love .. Takes trust. And you're going to need that if it means going back to him."

Shawn walked down the aisles of the library, swimming through different books and genres, trying to find a good one to use for a birthday present for Aaliyah. He flipped through pages of possibly every book he ever catched an eye on.

And then .. there was one.

He turned around, to be facing the book from his old lover, Camila Cabello. His heart skipped a beat just looking at the name, and he immediately grabbed it from the shelves and skimmed through the pages. The title had seemed to catch his attention, A Lover's War: Letters Edition.

His breath fell as he read the pages.

All of them ... were the letters she wrote to him.

For him.

He read every single one of them, carefully looking at her words. A crack in his heart struck him as he read everything she said. Thoughts raced his mind. Why did he leave so soon? A tear fell down his cheek, as he read the last letter.

Dear Shawn,

This is the last letter I'll be writing. I know it's been a year already. I really hoped you came back after five months .. But I guess not. Things have changed, actually. I found someone that makes me happy. His name is Adrian. We went on three dates, and he eventually asked me if I wanted to be his girlfriend ! I was so happy, and I know you would be too.

I hope you found someone who gives you the time I didn't give to you.

And just like you said, "Love happens for a reason."

I love you.

Thank you so much,
Camila.

His throat tightened and he couldn't breathe. Just for a second, he felt like he was going to die. He felt it happening. The world around him seemed black, but he still opened his eyes. He still saw everything in front of him.

Just not her.

alright! That's it guys! I hope that you liked my short story of Shawn and Camila! I worked very hard on trying to make you cry, but probably failed. Anyways, I might be taking a break from writing on Wattpad because of school. I'm so sorry! I just not might have time for writing and thinking of ideas for you guys. So, how did you like the book? Hate it? Love it? Tell me in the comments and be honest! I need feedback on how to be a better writer. Okay, thank you guys so much! All the love. (yes I am posting an epilouge)
