School

92 27 5

Two friends walk along a way
Hand in hand, to a new school day.

Your dark Chanel glares reflect
The corridor's eyes
Staring amazed
My thick-framed glasses,
Transparent, soak in
Snickers and stares
Making me feel razed.

My bag is heavy with books
But even those cannot outweigh
The lardy layers
Around my stomach
And the cupcakes in my tray.
Unlike me
You can twirl and sashay
Your lean frame makes them nod
In appreciation
And acceptance
Each time you score a hoop
Or smash the court clay.

I had a smile
Bubbling with enough joy
To fill anyone's day
I have a mind
Fuller than any else
With grey.
But because it was wrapped
In frumpy clothes
They judged me a lazy tool
You in your gift wrapper clothes
And frilly bows
Were deemed cool.

So the girls followed you
Guys flirted with you
You shopped together
And partied together
And shared music
But I never got to hear any of it.

They were nobody to me;
You were my everybody.

Yet now,
Two strangers walk out
at the end of the school day
Their backs turned,
headed opposite ways.
