I stare up at the flickering light
A man in a white coat by my bedside
Countless new years have passed in dismay
Without me batting the lash of an eye.Cold cheeks pine for the touch of tears
Parched lips desperate to part in laughter
Wrinkled hands waiting to join in prayer
It seems fiction that I used to be a dancer.Every day I fight a battle with life, and Win
I may be the only one who wishes to die
But what more is my life
Than a cruel joke, a dark lie?Tangled maze of tubes holding me,
Filling me with fluids, continue to remind
Of the corrosive chemical that consumed
My body,
my face,
my mind.My skin burned
And stretched like molten wax
All because I refused
To accept a divorce contract.I can see no relatives, whom I anyways wouldn't recognize
Perhaps they stay away to avoid the pain of my silent cry
Nevertheless I have become burden on the world
Just a toy to show off, a scoop in the journalists' circle. Why is it a crime to give up?
The high benches deny me my last breath
Put me to sleep, O holy mother,
It's been so long that I've not slept.I've no control over my mind, my dreams too blurred,
My thoughts blinding bright...
Have mercy, O Holy Father,
Take me to the heavens, embrace this child.~*~
Written for a contest by @superclarky . Over-the-counter sale of acid has been the culprit behind an alarming number of ruined lives. Debates about banning this sale are recurring and continuous but without any firm action. This is for all the victims of acid attacks. I do not intend in any way to say that they should give up on hope, on life. I am very much a supporter of dignified living for them. This was just my take to portray their pain and imagine the various thoughts and fears that might have plagued them at some point.
