Alex's POV:
It's been two months since the Finches moved in. ever since Carmen and Megs started hanging out, everything seems a lot brighter. Megs actually smiles now, It's a whole new her that I've never seen before, and I like it.
"Hey, Ally is my sister here?" I heard laurels voice coming from our hallway.
"No, Megs and Carmen went to go kayaking on Wilfred's lake." I really wanted to go but they wouldn't let me.
"Oh, well, do you wanna um....hang out or something?" Laurel had a skittish smile on her face.
When I first met laurel she seemed so young. I mean she still acts about 5 years old. I was really surprised when I found out she was 13, only a year younger than me. It's really refreshing to have someone so...innocent around.
"Sure laurel, do you wanna go to the park, we could go skating?" laurel beamed up at me.
"Yeah Ally that would be great! let me get my skates and I'll meet you at the park in, an hour?" laurel bounded off toward her house. I fell really bad. I know that laurel likes me, I just feel like I....I'm too bad for her. I don't mean to lead her on, it's just....I feel like theirs something she heals in me. Laurel is so pure and good, and ever since I was a kid I could feel something bad inside of me. it was like some memory was trying to claw out and take hold of me. ugh- Alex get over yourself! I'm a good person, my family would tell me if I did something bad. Wouldn't they?
Finally! I can't wait until next year when I can get my license.I hate having to walk everywhere.Suddenly, I saw laurel putting on her skates, looking cute as ever."Hey laurel, you ready to go? the lake is perfect today!" I said. Just about everyone in willows Brook knows how to skate seeming as it's the only thing to do around here during winter. Laurel and I walked over to the lake and then began to skate in slow circles.
Winter is my favorite season just because of the snow. it makes everything sparkle. oh God, If the guys heard me talking like this they would kill me.
"Hey Alex, can I ask you something?" Laurel had a really strange tone.
"Um yeah, of course laurel are you okay?"
Just as she was about to speak I saw something really strange. "What the hell is that!" I said.
Megan's POV:
"Dude you should totally go for him!" Carmen said. ugh, why couldn't she understand that Kyle and I would never be an item. "Car, you know why things will never work with us!" I yelled at her. "Jesus do you think you could get off your ass and help me with these damn boats!" Carmen was just sitting off to the side reading one of her Horse Breeds magazines. Trying to shove two kayaks into a cart by yourself isn't that easy. " Yeah, all you had to do was ask Megs!" Carmen came over to help me an shoved the kayaks in with one push. "it's because I muck so many stalls" Carmen said. "being a farm girl has it's advantages." I never understood Carmen's obsession with horses until a few days ago. Megan told me that when she was younger she used to live on a farm in Iowa. when she was 10 her parents died in a car crash and she moved in with her aunt and uncle. I never would have guessed that laurel wasn't her sister. Carmen claims that laurel is her sister, and her uncle and aunt are her parents. she claims it's just easier that way. "Earth to Megan! we need to get going before it gets dark." Carmen yapped at me. "sorry Car, trapped in my thoughts again." I said with a sad smile.
After the two hour drive to get back to town I began to hear the fire trucks. "What the hell? nothing ever catches on fire around here." it was true-well except for when Mrs. Fillapeck fell asleep with a pie in the oven.
"Shit-oh sorry!" Carmen said. she's not one to really swear. "Carmen what is it?"
"Megan, that house, do you see it?!"
I did, the house was covered In bright orange flames. everything was on fire, I had never seen anything like it. "Carmen." I said softly. "Carmen, that's my house."
"You're right! Megan now is not the time to be calm, DRIVE!" Carmen was right. I pushed my foot onto the gas petal and screeched around every turn. I barley managed to stop in time before hitting a nearby mailbox. I jumped out of the car with Carmen trailing behind me. their were fire trucks, police men, and just about every resident of willows brook outside my house. I ran up to a cop. "Did they....was their anyone inside." I asked, my throat was so tight I could barley get any sound out. I swear to god, if my brother was In their-"Im sorry Miss, I can't tell you."
That pissed me off. "you fucking heard what I said!" I yelled. "Was their a boy in their?" I could hardly breathe. suddenly I saw two firemen pull a body out of my house. I closed my eyes, please god. Don't let it be Alex, please no,NO! then I realized who it was and my heart sunk. As they zipped the body into the black bag, I fell to my knees.
