They were running over logs and under trees they kept running... Things weren't letting up either a massive warg was on their tail and they both knew it would only be a matter of time before they were dinner. Further and further they ran over rocks and through streams but yet it was still behind them they were tired but they couldn't stop not for a single minute they had to think of a plan and fast.....
2 days before:
Arriving in Rivendell Legolas Greenleaf knew that his friend was bored on his own he also knew that they would get into trouble and he also knew not to dwell on that thought. Instead he made his way up the steps towards the gate where Lord Elrond was waiting for him "thank god Thranduil let you come I was worried he'd be bored forever" Elrond signed happily Legolas smiled before following his friends father all the way to his friends bedroom "Legolas you're here!! Can we go now Ada?" Aragorn whined although Legolas didn't have a clue what he was talking about "I suppose but please try to stay out of trouble" Elrond was tired as would anyone be if they had to look after Aragorn all day."Can I just ask Mellon nin where is it we're allowed to go?" Legolas asked Aragorn looked at him before carefully choosing the right words "we're going into the wild" and as simple as that they were on their way to the stables and out through the gates of Rivendell.
A day went past quite happily no trouble and be honest both of them enjoyed that nothing was trying to eat them or kill them, not for long. "Remind me again why I promised to come with you?" Legolas asked he wouldn't admit but he was tired they hadn't stopped for rest last night as it was too dangerous and now both man and elf were feeling the effects, rubbing his shoulder he looked at his friend expectedly Aragorn simply shrugged back "it'll be fun" Aragorn repeated his words from back in Rivendell to only hear Legolas snicker in the background the friends chuckled some more together enjoying what seemed to be an almost pleasant ride.
A noise in the nearest bush alerted them that something was watching jumping off their horses and raising their weapons they moved toward the bush, without warning a massive creature came jumping toward them causing their horses to bolt.. An arrow whizzed through the air bouncing off their attacker. The closer the friends looked the more they could tell this creature was a warg from the very debts of Mordor and that never ended well. As Legolas stood shocked as his arrow bounced he took Aragorn by the arm and they began to run closely followed by the warg.
Present time:
That's how they found themselves now hiding in the bushes catching their breathe as the warg began its search for them. Legolas and Aragorn settled in ready for a rough night. The hours went by and still the wargs were searching for them they had no chance of escape not at this moment anyway "Legolas you ok" Aragorn could hear the sharp breathes his elven friend was making and was beginning to worry even though he probably sounded the same "I'm fine, you ok?" His question backfired and Aragorn genuinely had to think whether he was ok or not "I am fine lets get some rest while we can" they both settled behind the bush Legolas taking first watch.
The warg had been pacing back and forth outside their bush for the whole of Legolas' watch... Legolas was tired like really tired that he couldn't remember whether he ever felt this tired on patrols but through that thought away as during patrols they weren't running for their lives for 2 whole days, as Legolas mentally debated with himself Aragorn stirred "are we still dinner??" The tired voice of his friend drew his attention to look at the weather ridden man in front of him who clearly had just woken up "I think we're more breakfast now" Legolas replied solemnly Aragorn was shocked but not at all surprised the more he thought about it. Making his way round his friend he placed a hand on his elven friends forehead "you're warm have some rest" Aragorn stated Legolas crawled further away from the entrance of the bush and laid down ready to catch some sleep before they really were breakfast.
4 hours had passed since Aragorn had awoken Legolas was still asleep and the warg was still searching for them. Reaching toward his friend Aragorn placed the palm of his hand on his best friends forehead noting the heat underneath worrying the ranger before bright blue eyes began staring at him "I am well Mellon nin" the voice said as a groggy Legolas sat up removing Aragorns hand from his head "I do not believe you but will pretend if it makes you feel any better" a small smile played itself on the Rangers face as Legolas moved closer to his friend staring out into the wasteland before them.
By now it was nearly lunchtime pulling lembas bread from their packs they took to relaxing if only for a minute for that's all the warg gave them.. Smelling the food the warg dived behind the bush and attached his teeth round something soft pulling on it slightly a groan came from within, knowing the warg had found one of its mark it tried to pull again, only to be hit square on with something hard dropping his prize he swung his face throwing the two companions into a tree and into their escape.
They began running again further than they ever thought possible they kept going until arrows began whistling above their heads ducking behind a tree they watched in silence as the Warriors battled against the warg. Taking his arm Aragorn looked at the prominent teeth marks littering Legolas' right arm a wince made it self known but no other noise came from his friend ripping the bottom of his cloak off Aragorn began to wrap his friends arm up the best he could before Legolas came out of his shock. Legolas took a while to come round pain and tiredness flooded his vision as he tried to ignore both looking towards his friend he noted the ranger was tired and also had a nasty cut along his hairline he too took a piece of his cloak and wrapped his friends forehead a sheen of sweat was on his forehead and Legolas knew he looked no better.
After what seemed like ages the battle was over "Estel, Legolas where are you" the shouting got loader but yet there was no answer the Warriors began their search for their fallen friends finding them curled together behind a tree. Shaking them slightly they stirred "Elrohir, Elladan what are you doing here?" The quiet voice of their foster brother tore at their hearts as they each lifted one of the companions Aragorn with Elrohir and Legolas with Elladan as they began travelling back to Rivendell.
It had been 4 days since they had been found and 4 days since either of them had made any sound until now a scream tore itself through the palace as Elrond ran to the healing rooms closely followed by Thranduil "Ada!!!" another pained scream tore at Thranduil's heart as his sons voice proved he was having a nightmare just as quick as it started it ended as the Lord and King entered the healing room there was a sight they recognised from their own adventures. Aragorn had awoken and moved to lie next to his friend as he stroked Legolas' hair his friends sobs had died of just as their fathers entered the room. Hushing Aragorn back into his bed Thranduil moved to where Aragorn had been only for Legolas to throw his arms around him which anyone would know Legolas grew out of public affection when he was still small but not today.
Once Legolas was back to sleep and promised he would be fine Thranduil moved towards Aragorns bed and enveloping him into a hug to Aragorns shock "thank you for being the best friend he could have, thank you for looking after him so well I don't know what I would do without him" with that the King turned and walked to the door. With one last look towards his elven friend Aragorn began to drift off ready for a new day.
