The time had come Gimli the dwarf was to be joining Legolas the elf and the only human in their company Aragorn now known as Elessar King of Gondor on an errand to Rivendell to meet with Aragorns adoptive father Lord Elrond. Nerves were getting the better of him yes he had travelled with them before during the war of the ring but how could that be the same as this errand, he had travelled separately with Legolas as agreed and Gimli knew Legolas and Aragorn had been travelling together also not that he was jealous or anything because he wasn't they had known each other far longer than he had known either of them and knew they were tighter than brothers.. but now was when he was joining this unlikely group of travellers.

A soft knock at the door drew Gimli from his thoughts as a tall slender figure entered the room his long fingers curled around the door knob his long legs held the rest of his long body up with his long blonde hair immaculately draping across his shoulders with his traditional warrior braids to match 'he totally could pass as a girl' his subconscious told him however many times he had thought it all elves have the same habit of long hair and Gimli wasn't about to judge. "Are you nearly ready the hour is right" his musical voice filled Gimli with happiness as he walked towards his friend "aye Legolas let us find that blasted human and we shall be on our way" compared to Legolas Gimli was the opposite his short stature, his plump belly and long beard with a gruff face and tired eyes an unlikely friendship to look upon an elf and a dwarf in conversation happily well that's a sight unheard of.

Aragorn walked towards his company escorted by his wife Queen Arwen her long flowing dark brown hair curled on her shoulders with an elegant pink dress that made her eyes stand out upon her slender body. The king wore a matching assortment to his wife yet his was frayed and not as well cared for. Stopping short of his company he turned to his wife bowed before kissing her tender lips "go forth and see your Ada I will keep things as you like upon your return" her voice was musical as she bowed low to them all in turn "go now and let the valar protect you" with that she turned and walked back towards the throne room before the company turned toward the stables.

That was but 6 hours ago they had travelled far since then and night was soon upon them, searching for a place to rest led them to a small clearing surrounded by trees not ideal but not completely useless. The company began setting their camp up ready for a deserved rest or that was the hope anyway. The first watch was taken by Gimli for he could not see the king take first watch and he definitely couldn't ask the crown Prince Of Mirkwood even though he had tried to offer, Gimli felt of use to them in that moment but soon he felt himself start to drift off legolas was next for watch gladly switching places Gimli snuggled into Legoals' cloak discarded on the ground before he drifted into sleep.

When Aragorn roused his companions the next morning all was quiet and seemed pleasant enough. The sun was shining and soon the company had eaten and tidied their camp up so no trace of them was to be found before setting off again with Aragorn in front and Legolas with Gimli behind him riding a little behind. "Aragorn something is out there, I can feel it" concern was laced in every word as Legolas slightly trembled in front of Gimli the worried glance of Aragorn had them turn off the road and into the nearby forest "we must be swift but ever so quiet" jumping from their horses they carefully made their way through the forest with their horses not far behind but however quiet they had tried to be they weren't quiet enough and soon enough something in the dark made itself known.

As loud as thunder and as unwanted as the rain out came at least 3 bands of orcs and goblins surrounding the trio pulling their weapons they prepared for battle all knowing how unlikely they would walk out of this one each found their mark for many arrows were drawn, many crashes were heard and many screams of agony but none could prepare Gimli for what he heard next for was that an elvish curse yes he thought it very much was shortly followed by a pained scream turning his attention he quickly assessed his companions weren't looking fighting fit and to be fair neither did he. A quick look deeper into the forest Gimli saw their horses for at least they were still alive blood flowed from each of them as they struggled with the last of the orcs and goblins as quick as it came the danger had passed.
