21.
I slowly start to regain consciousness; I don’t know where I am.
Hmmm... I groan to myself, where am I? The numbness in my body starts to disappear and I can control my fingers. They grasp the soft linen sheets that cover me, keeping me snug and warm; I’ve never felt anything more comfortable. There is a pillow behind my head, lifting it up. There is a cushiony mattress beneath me, I don’t remember going to bed.
I remember... Cameron... he told me... Anger builds up inside me as I recall the memory of fining out the guy I loved was a traitor and one of those blood thirsty killers, how could he lie to me?
“She’s waking up doctor” an unfamiliar voice interrupts my thoughts. I struggle to keep my eyes open even for a second but I catch a glimpse of a woman, probably in her late twenties with flawless skin, she was wearing an outfit that closely resembled what a nurse would wear. Next to her was a man with a large white coat and glasses, he stared at her with curiosity in his look. The two seemed to be in conversation, I had never seen them in my life but there was something odd about them, they looked too perfect.
“Yes... Yes... The healing process worked for her, none of us was sure what effect it would have on a human...” he muttered quietly to her, turning to me every few seconds probably to make sure I wasn’t fully awake yet to listen to their private conversation even though I was. My body urged to get up but I stayed quiet and pretended to sleep, I wanted to hear more.
“When should we... you know...” the nurse said gesturing towards me.
“I’ll have to check with General about that, I think he might want to do it himself”
What are they talking about? By now I figured that they weren’t human. They were robots. Is Bethany okay? Jesse? Grandpa? What if they were captured? This is that idiot Cameron’s fault! If he never came or if I hadn’t ever gotten close to him then they would be alive now, it’s my fault too!
What were they planning to do to me; they usually would have killed me by now for my blood but what if they wanted me for something else? I’d rather die.
I choose to open my eyelids and as I do, I glare at the doctor “What do you want?”
“Information on the hiding humans”
Does that mean that there alive? “And what makes you think I’m going to tell you?” I say smugly but these guys always have an answer.
“Oh we have our ways, you won’t like it though”
“No matter what you do, I’m not revealing anything, just kill me now”
“We will get the information and once we’re done with you, we don’t plan to kill you, actually we have something special for you... A little experiment...”
“What are you going to do?”
“We were thinking... Nah, I’m not going to tell you...”
“Tell me!” I suddenly shriek at him but her just laughs like he is better than me which just adds to my rage.
“You humans, such desperate little creatures, look where it’s gotten you now; ninety nine percent of you are dead. So very weak...” This makes my blood boil.
“Tell me the effing thing now or I will bite your pretty little head off!”
“Since you will find out either way, there is no harm in making it easier by telling you now. We plan to inject a very special serum that will take over your mind and you won’t remember anything, not even a single bit, you’ll even have superhuman abilities like us”
“What do you mean?” my voice softens to a squeak because I know what he will say but I don’t want to hear it.
“Oh my dear April, so foolish, isn’t it obvious? You’ll be a robot, just like us and you won’t even remember your human life. Of course, we’ll do that after the torture”
“Torture?” I squeak.
“Yes, torture unless you’re willing to cooperate and tell us the whole story. We won’t have to use force then at it will be so much easier and less painful” he looks at me with a smirk and strokes my face. Slowly, his sharp nail slices through my cheek making a huge cute in the side of my face. The pain is so agonizing I stifle a scream making the guy laugh loudly. I so just want to punch him in the face.
“In no way am I going to listen to you” I spit in his face while giving him at icy stare. I try at sit up but I realise that I have been tied down with brown leather straps across my body. I struggle against them but they don’t budge, these people don’t want me going anywhere and they certainly aren’t going to be nice to me. They want something, something that I won’t give them.
“You haven’t got a choice, you will talk” and with that, he walks away with the nurse trailing behind him. I see him open a large metal door and slam it shut behind him, and then there is a rattle of the key and lock. Guess escaping isn’t the answer.
I gaze at my surroundings; all the walls have been painting bright white and the ten meter room is empty except for the small bed that I am sitting on. There are no windows except for a mirror on the other side of the room, I know on the other side it is a window, I bet someone is watching my every move right now. My bed is placed right at the centre and I am able to gaze around everywhere, there are four cameras, one placed in each corner with all of them fixed straight on me.
I struggle again on my restraints; I just want to get out of here!
Out of nowhere a manly voice booms in my ear “If you don’t want to be drugged, you better stop” I wince at how loud it is. I don’t listen to the guy and keep trying to get out, I’m not listening to them, and I won’t.
The door sounds a click and the same woman walks in with a needle filled with green liquid. At seeing this, I struggle harder but it is no use. She walks straight up to me and jabs the needle hard into my arm. Everything immediately goes blurry and my voice becomes slurred. “I’m not telling y-you guys anything...”
My eyelids droop and once again I fall asleep, eager to awaken and face what is coming for me. I won’t talk, even if they threaten to put a bullet through my brain. I will do anything to protect my family...
