Ch. 7- Father vs. Son: Battle of the Alphas

Caden's POV (SURPRISE!!)

Sitting next to her hospital bed, I watch my mate breathe as I waited for her to regain consciousness. Dr. Mason, the pack doctor, had told me that she should be waking up soon. She had fainted two days ago after telling me that it was my father that had beaten her into unconscious. I remember walking into her room only to find her curled in a fetal position on the floor, her body battered and bruised. My hands involuntarily tightened into fists as I  tried to control my wolf from taking over and attacking my father. I knew he didn't approve of me and Aliyah but I didn't think he would go so far as to attack her. Now that he had hurt my mate, both me and my wolf were itching to return the favor. Trying to calm myself down, I held one of my mate's hands in my own and pushed a strand of hair behind her ears. She looked so beautiful lying there. Most of her bruising had started to fade and luckily she had only suffered a couple of fractured ribs, although her leg would be in constant pain from the kicks she had received. My wolf growled in angry and I brought her hand to my lips, inhaling her vanilla scent in order to quench my wolf's thirst for revenge.

I heard footsteps outside her door and stiffen when it opened, relaxing when I saw that it was only Dr. Mason.

"Caden," he said, bowing his head in respect before checking on Aliyah. "She hasn't woken up yet?"

"No," I replied in an annoyed tone. "You said she would be waking up soon. How long is it going to take?"

"All in good time, my boy. Her body will regain consciousness at it's own pace," he said with a small smile. "Her vital signs are normal and her body's recovering quickly. She is a strong wolf and will be okay. As for you, I'm not so sure. You haven't left her side since she's been admitted. You won't eat, you won't sleep- that's not healthy. Maybe you should take a bre-"

"I'm fine," I cut in coldly. "She's the one you should be worried about. She's the patient.  And until she wakes up, I'm not leaving her alone."After a moment of silence, I heard Dr. Mason walk away and let out a loud sigh. I didn't mean to be so harsh to him. If it wasn't for him and his daughter Sky, Aliyah's best friend, my mate would probably be in horrible shape right now. I just didn't want to leave Aliyah's side. If I hadn't left her alone last time, she wouldn't be here right now. This is my fault. I was suppose to protect her from harm and when she needed me, I wasn't there.
