Ch. 9- Memories in the Rain

It's been almost a month since the pack ceremony and I have finally started getting used to my new pack life. It took a while to get accustomed to everyone calling me Luna and treating me like a queen but I soon began to embrace my new role in the Blood Mountains Pack. Most of my days were spent exploring my new territory and learning the pack history and the history of every other pack in the world.  I was also learning the names and stories of every member in my pack. Being raised in a small pack I wasn't used to being exposed to all these pack traditions and the ways of our people so it gets a little overwhelming at times. Luckily I have Sky and Emma, who are always there to keep my head above the waves, and Niala, who is always giving me motherly advice about being Luna.

In fact, the only downside of my new life so far is not being able to see my mate often. The last time I actually spent time with him was the night of the pack initiation. After that, I hardly get to see him. Being the Alpha of one of the biggest packs in the world carried a lot of responsibility so he was always gone before I woke up and came home long after I fell asleep. Although we knew he was just fulfilling his duty to the pack, me and my wolf couldn't help but feel restless by his absence. I missed Caden, and so did she.

So when I woke up to a half empty bed once again, I couldn't help the surge of disappointment that shot through me. Rolling over to Caden's side of the bed I buried my face in his pillow, hoping his lingering scent would make up for him not being here. After a couple minutes of nose-raping the sheets I got up and got ready for the busy day ahead. Today I had to go shopping for a new wardrobe since the old one I had wasn't exactly fit for a Luna- according to Sky and Emma. They were supposed to join me today but Emma wasn't feeling well and Sky had to help her dad with an emergency at the pack hospital so I was on my own. Well, not really. I was going to be accompanied by my two guards- one of whom was Seth, Caden's friend, and the other was a female fighter named Lucy (picture on side). She was the quiet and brooding type, as opposed to Seth's loud and outgoing personality.

Hopping out the shower I got dressed quickly in a pair of jeans and a sleeveless button-down shirt before heading down to the kitchen where Seth and Lucy were waiting for me.

"Good morning Luna," Seth's cheery voice filled the room as he gave me his signature lopsided grin.

"Morning Seth," I replied as I was pulled into his daily bear hug that Caden didn't really approve of. Not that Seth cared. "Morning Lucy," I said, throwing a smile at the girl dressed in all black sitting at the kitchen counter. She quickly bowed her head in acknowledgement before going back to examining her matching black nails. Like I said, she didn’t talk much. She is always so reserved and guarded- which is probably why she is so good at her job. After cooking breakfast for the three of us (although Seth ate most of it), I headed upstairs to grab my bag which contained the credit card Caden gave me a while ago. My bag was lying on the dresser next to my calendar and as my eyes landed on the date I froze.

Before I could stop it my mind had already flashbacked to this same day four years ago. Suddenly I was back on that bloody field, staring at the dead bodies of my old pack members lying all around. I blink, trying to remove the image from my head only for it to be replaced with something even worse. I tried to swallow my scream as I stared at my mom’s lifeless body, her dead eyes staring straight into my soul- begging, pleading, blaming…..
