When I got off the airplane I went straight to the luggage pickup to get my suitcase. After I find my bag I look around to try to see if my mom is here. When I spot her light brown hair she sees me and a huge smile appears on her face. I walk over to her and she immediately wraps her arms around me.
"I missed you Lydi! I'm so glad you're here." My mom's excitement is clear in her voice.
"I missed you too mom." I pull away from the hug and we walk out the airport to my mother's car.
"Is Candice home?" I ask my mom. Candice is my older sister. I have not seen her since my senior year of high school.
"She is actually. She brought her boyfriend Kyle with her." My mom tells me.
"I didn't know she had a boyfriend. Do you like him?" I look over at her for an answer.
"Yeah he's great. He makes her really happy." I can't help but think about Harry as my mom tells me about my sister's boyfriend. "Do you have a special guy in Atlanta?" She looks at me with a smirk.
"I do but it's not going very well right now." I tell her.
"Why is that?" The smirk disappears from her face.
"I made a mistake and he got mad at me." I don't want to go into detail right now about what happened between me and Harry.
"No matter how big the mistake you made is, if he really cares about you and wants to be with you he will forgive you." My mother's comment makes me think about if Harry would forgive me.
My mom pulls up to the two story brick house that I grew up in. When my mom opens the front door my family is standing in front of us. A smile curves on my lips. "Hey Lydia it's so great to see you." My dad pulls me into a hug. I look over his shoulder to see my sister and who I am assuming is her boyfriend standing next to her. She smiles and hugs me tightly.
My mom helps me take my suitcase up to my old room. When I walk into the bedroom, memories of my high school years floods my mind. The purple walls are decorated with pictures of my family and old friends. The comforter that lays on the neatly made bed is red with black designs. "You are probably tired from the plane ride so I will let you get some sleep. I'll see you in the morning good night." My mom says as she walks out of the bedroom.
"Good night." She slowly closes the door and I begin to get ready for bed. I look through my suit case and pull out my blue and green plaid pajama pants and a blue t-shirt then I walk into the bathroom and quickly brush my teeth. After I lay down on the bed my phone starts to vibrate on the small wooden table that sits next to my bed. When I look at my phone I can see Niall's name appear on the screen. I roll back over onto the bed and let the phone ring until it stops. My eyes close as I slowly fall asleep.
..........
The smell of bacon and pancakes makes my taste buds tingle as I walk down the stairs into the kitchen.
My mom turns around and smiles when she sees me. "Good morning Lydia! I made breakfast." She sets a plate with a pancake covered in butter and syrup, eggs, and two pieces of bacon in front of me.
"Thank you. Where is everyone else?" I ask my mom as I stuff a forkful of pancake into my mouth.
She walks over with her own plate and sits across from me at the kitchen table. "Your dad is at work and Candice and Kyle went shopping." She tells me and I nod my head. "Yesterday in the car you told me about a guy. Who is this guy?" My mother asks me and looks into my eyes before taking a bite of her bacon.
"His name is Harry." I can't help but smile as Harry's name escapes my lips.
"You said it's not going too well. Why is that?" She asks me and my smile disappears.
"I did something that upset him." The picture of Harry walking in as me and Niall kiss tears my heart open. I can't even imagine how he felt.
"Lydia, you can tell me anything you know that right?" My mom looks at me with a look of sympathy.
"Yes I know."
She sets her fork down on her plate and pushes it to the side. "There is obviously something going on with this Harry guy and you need to talk about it and I want to be here for you." My mom's words comfort me.
"Mom, I'm a cheater." The label I give myself hurts as I confess to my mother.
My mom looks at me with a sad look. "How are you a cheater?" She asks me.
"I've cheated on three guys. I was with Parker for a year and then I met Niall and I fell for him then left Parker. Niall was so sweet to me and then I cheated on him with Harry, his best friend. Mom Harry has been more than perfect. I have never met any guy like him. He's amazing and treats me like a princess then I got drunk and kissed Niall." The words come out quickly as I tell my mom about my actions.
"Lydia do you remember Josh?" The name my mother mentions sounds familiar and my mind searches for any memories of him.
"Not really." I answer her.
"He was your boyfriend the summer before your junior year of high school." The memories all of a sudden fill my mind and every detail of my high school years comes back to me. I feel the tears sting my eyes as I remember my past that I had tried incredibly hard to forget. "You do remember him." My mom quietly says. I nod my head. "He cheated on you and you were so upset then eventually it turned into anger and you ended up dating almost every guy in the school. You cheated on them, dumped them, and slept with them. Once you realized who you had become you hated yourself and wanted to change but you couldn't. The cheating had become a habit for you and that's why you left to live in Atlanta." As my mother reminds me of my past, tears fall heavily from my eyes. "You had to go to therapy to block out the memory of Josh and the guys you cheated on. You forgot about everything then moved but I guess the habit stayed with you." I can tell my mother is on the verge of crying. I wipe my soaked cheeks with the back of my hand. I stumble out of my chair and run up the stair to my bedroom.
