All a Dream

I don't know what happened.

One minute I was laying in bed with Jace, cuddling into his chest and talking about our plans for my seventeenth birthday in a week while I slowly fell asleep--thanking the Angel my mother was gone--and the next I was waking up in a hospital.

As I groggily open my eyes, I hear the steady, monotone beeping and smell that classic hospital smell that has always made me sick. I move my right hand to brush some hair out of my face, I wince slightly at the pinch in my hand. I look over and my eyebrows scrunch in confusion. Why is there an IV in my hand? It's only then that I realize there's a cannula tube in my nose. "By the Angel what am I doing here?" I mumble in a voice that is scratchy and hoarse--one that's completely alien to me.

I sit there wondering why I'm in a hospital as a nurse comes in, looking over her charts. When she looks up and sees me her eyes widen and she rushes towards the door, sticking her head yelling out, "Page Dr Loss! Patient 218 is awake!"

"What's going on?" I ask, my voice still hoarse as I sit up straighter. "Where's Jace?"

Ignoring my question, the nurse rushes over and checks my vitals. "Hello Clarissa, my name is Nurse Olsen. We've called your family, they're on their way."

"What happened? Where am I?"

"You're in Beth Israel Hospital. You were in an accident and have been in a coma for almost a year now."

I feel myself pale as I stare forward. "N-No I haven't. I've been awake--I have memories from the past year." I feel tears cloud my eyes as shock fills my body.

Nurse Olsen walks over and gently grabs my hand. "You really don't remember, do you?" I shake my head slowly. "You were in an accident going to a club called Pandemonium with your friend Simon--do you remember Simon Lewis?" I nod my head slowly. "You were hit by a car and have been in a coma ever since."

I remember the night Simon and I went to Pandemonium together--that's the night I met Jace, Alec, and Isabelle. On the way there I almost got hit by a car; but Simon pulled me out of the way in time. I shake my head as I start speaking. "But I remember going to that club. I wasn't hit. Simon pulled me out of the way before--"

I'm cut off by Catarina Loss walking into the room--but she doesn't look at all how I remember her. Instead of blue skin her skin is the regular pale colour of mine and her white hair is a pale blonde. I stare at her weirdly as she walks in. "Vitals Nancy," she snaps.

"No murmurs on the heart monitor. Pulse is steady and oxygen levels are good."

"Pupillary response?"

"Haven't checked yet," Nurse Olsen admits quietly.

Catarina scowls at her before she takes out one of those light pens all doctors seem to have. "Follow the light with your eyes," she instructs with a small smile as she shines the light in my eyes. After a few moments of her moving the light, she switches it off. "Pupillary response better than expected. I still want to get her into a CT to rule out any brain damage." As she's telling the nurse to order a CT, my mother, Luke, and Simon rush through the door.

"Clary!" my mother cries through tears as she rushes over.

"Mom," I gasp out as she hugs me. "What's going on? Where's Jace?" When my mom doesn't respond I look at Simon. "Simon where's Jace?"

His eyebrows furrow together as he looks at me. "Who's Jace?" he asks.

I groan slightly. "Not funny Simon. Where's Jace? He should be here--so should Izzy and Alec and Magnus and--"

"Clary, we don't know anyone by those names," Simon says softly.

Tears start to fill my eyes as I start to shake slightly. "Y-yes we do. They're some of our best friends. We met them at-at Pandemonium three days before my sixteenth birthday."
