Chapter Five
Friend-Zoned
I was tempted on removing the helmet off my head and have the cold winter breeze flow through my long brown hair but my arms where just in the best position possible. Harry maneuvered his motorcycle through the empty streets swiftly and steadily.
Whenever he would make a turn, I would hold him tighter and would try resting my head on his back although having a helmet on made that a little impossible to accomplish. Once the turn would be complete I would quickly lessen my hold I had around him and prop my head up. I felt him chuckle from time to time. That sort of gave me a hint that I was overreacting and I had nothing to really worry about. I guess I was too caught up in the 'what ifs' that I wasn't really enjoying my very first time riding on a motorcycle.
"There's a first time for everything Lily..." His voice echoed through my head. The thought that there was in fact a first time for everything made the world in which I lived in fill up with numerous possibilities for me. It made me think twice.
"So where exactly do you live?!" Harry shouted. His voice was competing with the loud roar of his motorcycle's engine making him sound faint as ever. He turned his head a bit towards his left shoulder making sure I did hear his question.
"Just a little past the park then make a right turn at the upcoming light," I shouted back, "We're not that far!"
He nodded and continued making his way to our desired destination, my house. Night was rising and the city lights were illuminating the bare streets of our divided city. Harry momentarily stopped the motorcycle at a red light and removed his right foot onto the street pavement, making the motorcycle have balance once more.
"Lily, you hold onto me like you're about to die." Harry says sarcastically. I nod my head in disagreement although he can't see me.
"No," I protest, "you just happen to ride this contraption like you own the streets." I continue. He laughed at my argument.
"What's so funny?" I shout.
"Contraption.. really? It's a motorcycle Lily." He continued to maneuver his way through smaller streets until we finally reach my house. Once we're in front of my house I see another familiar 'contraption.'
"Shit." I murmur under my breath and at that very exact moment I can feel Harry tense up. I hesitate on getting off but Harry removes my arms from around him.
"Lily, I have to go." he states quite harshly. I get off the motorcycle and hand him the helmet he let me borrow. I can't help but feel like I've done something wrong. I now stand on the sidewalk while he's still seated on the motorcycle.
"Thank you so much for the ride Harry." I say. Once again I make sure I make eye contact with him. Before I start to walk away Harry calls my name.
"Lily?"
"Yea?" I reply.
"Thank you for such a wonderful evening." I smile at him. I should be the one thanking him.
"No, Harry thank you. I had a wonderful time." He smiles and places his hands back on the motorcycle handles and looks back to me.
"I'll see you soon Lily... hopefully." and with that he left. With his motorcyle's engine roaring in the distance, I made my way to the door. I pulled the keys out of my book bag and opened the door.
"Lily, it's about you got home." My mother says. She makes her way towards me and embraces me in a hug. "There's someone here to see you dear." she continues.
"Who? I'm not expecting anyone." my jaw clenches and my heart starts beating. I already know who it is.
"He's quite the gentlemen Lily." My mother winks at me. I roll my eyes at her action. I hear voices near the kitchen area, one of them being my father's.
