Chapter 2 - WolfTale

The Strange Man

~

Frisk stared at the person trespassing on his property, but he didn't really find the fact that he was on private property to be that important-he wanted to know why he was there.

It was an older man, Frisk guessed that he was around 70 or older. He had slightly messy gray hair and icy blue eyes. His overall appearance seemed to be formal as he was wearing a neat dress shirt and shoes.

As Frisk continued watching him, he noticed that the older man was looking up at his home. It almost looked like he was trying to look through the windows...

"Excuse me?" Frisk asked politely.

Looking at Frisk, the older man's eyes narrowed. "Greetings, little one. What brings you here?" He had a very deep and rough voice.

Frisk thought that was a pretty awkward question for him to ask. "Well, this is my house...I was about to ask you the same thing."

Seeming to be slightly alarmed, the man took a couple steps back. He stared at Frisk with a confused look. "You live here?"

Frisk nodded.

"I see..it was nice meeting you, but I should be heading back to my home by now." The man left Frisk's yard and ventured deeper into the forest, walking alarmingly fast.

Frisk was left standing in his yard and wondering what in the world just happened. "It was nice meeting you?" They barely talked, they didn't even introduce themselves to each other. Not only that, but after saying he should head home, the man walked into the forest. Most of the forest is still Frisk's family's property, so he couldn't possibly live nearby.

Although, Frisk supposed he was lucky that the guy wasn't violent. He decided to brush it off as if it wasn't anything too important and went inside.

As Frisk entered his home, a pleasant smell greeted him. Going into the kitchen and looking around curiously, Frisk spotted Papyrus who was currently attempting to make fettuccine alfredo.

Papyrus has been trying to become more broad with what he makes, branching out from just making spaghetti. He's currently in a phase of being experimental with other types of pasta. Luckily, he was doing a pretty good job, everything he's made so far has been at least decent.

Papyrus turned around and smiled at Frisk. "DID YOU FIND WHATEVER WAS OUTSIDE?"

Frisk nodded. "It was an old man.."

Papyrus' smile dropped a little. "ANOTHER HUMAN? WHAT WAS HE DOING OVER HERE SO LATE AT NIGHT?"

"I..don't really know, he never really explained. He just said "I'm going home" and walked into the forest."

"HOW PECULIAR, I DIDN'T THINK ANYONE LIVED IN THOSE WOODS. I HOPE HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY TROUBLE GETTING HOME."

"Yeah.." Frisk looked at his backyard through a window in the kitchen. There wasn't anything there.

The oven beeped and Papyrus carefully took a pan of homemade breadsticks out of it. Toriel must've made those.

Papyrus looked at Frisk, who was still looking out the window worriedly. He then put together a bowl of pasta and gave it to him. "DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT TOO MUCH, EVERYTHING'S GOING TO BE FINE. TRY TO RELAX AND ENJOY YOUR HOMEMADE GOURMET PASTA."

Frisk gave the skeleton a small smile. "Thank you." He walked into the dining room and set his bowl on the table.

Sans was sitting across from him and Toriel sat beside Sans. An empty seat was next to Frisk which belonged to Papyrus. Sans and Toriel had already gotten their food.

"so..how was the walk?" Sans asked.

"It was alright, we got to talk to Undyne for a little bit." Frisk said, twirling his fork into the pasta.

"neat, anything interesting goin' on with her?" Sans responded.

"She told us that Alphys just finished putting her new lab together, all of her stuff is in their basement."

"that sounds exciting. we all should go and visit them sometime to see it."

Toriel put her hands together, looking cheerful. "That sounds like a great idea, we should do that this weekend!"

"FRISK WAS WANTING TO KNOW IF HE COULD STAY THE NIGHT AT HER HOUSE AT SOME POINT." Papyrus cut in, walking into the room with his own bowl of pasta.

"That sounds like a fine idea. As long as your chores are done and you ask beforehand, you may go." Toriel said.

Frisk smiled and Papyrus set his food down, sitting next to him. The family stayed silent for the rest of their dinner.

Frisk took his empty bowl of pasta into the kitchen and set it in the sink. Glancing out of the window again, he scanned his backyard to still see nothing. However, looking a little closer, he noticed a figure standing in the forest right outside of his yard.

He moved closer to the window, nearly pressing against it. He couldn't make out much, besides that the black silhouette was tall. Frisk then noticed something that alarmed him. Two glowing red eyes were looking back at him.

Staring into the red beams of light, Frisk realized that it felt as if something was pulling him. A voice in his head was telling him to go after it. Taking a few steps back, he thought about it.

"Toriel, may I go outside for a little bit?" He asked, peering into the dining room to look at her.

"All by yourself? What for?" She questioned in a quiet tone.

"I..just need to go look at something in the backyard, that's all." He said.

Toriel looked at him for a moment then she closed her eyes. "Alright, be safe and hurry back."

Frisk gave a small nod and hurried to the back door. Looking around once he got outside, he thankfully saw the figure still standing there. It was still staring at him.

Slowly, he started moving towards it. Halfway there, he paused. Frisk realized that he wasn't exactly sure of what to do. Should he attack it? Perhaps talk to it? What'll happen if it tries to hurt him?

He looked into its eyes. It didn't look like anything besides two red, glowing beams. It didn't look like they belonged to any monster he could recognize.

"Hello?" Frisk said quietly, hoping to get a response.

The figure moved closer. Now that Frisk could get a better look at it, its body looked as if it were made of black smoke. It still had a form, but it was loose and slowly wavering.

Frisk felt slightly intimidated, it was a lot bigger than he first thought. The strange smoky substance took form of what looked to be a human. Along with that, the smoke formed what looked like a large pole into the human's hands.

Frisk started running back towards his home to warn his family about it, but something grabbed his right arm in the process. Turning around quickly, Frisk caught a glimpse of the man he first saw in his backyard holding a metal pole up.

He swung, and Frisk fell unconscious.
