Chapter 3 - WolfTale

Now Cursed

~

Frisk awakened with an excruciating headache. Looking at his surroundings, he couldn't see anything. However, about 30 seconds later, his eyes adjusted to the darkness, and he could see that he was in a small room. Looking around hurt too, but he didn't exactly have a choice.

He tried to get up, but realized he couldn't move. It felt as if he were strapped down to something cold and heavy, but he wasn't sure. Everything around him was so dark and his vision was still a little blurry. The most he could make out were smooth white floors and walls surrounding him. It almost looked like a doctor's office, but scarier.

Other than that, he didn't see anything around him besides inky black darkness. The silence was nearly deafening, it made him wish that someone was with him.

Frisk took that statement back when he heard a voice come from the darkness surrounding him.

"I knew that once you saw me in my true form, you would come after me."

The voice was deep, rough, and very familiar. Frisk looked all around the room, but he didn't see anyone.

"It's so unfortunate that such a strong soul would be planted into a pathetic, weak body. You deserve something better. After all.."

Frisk continued looking around, but he still could not see anything.

"...if I'm going to beat you, it needs to be a fair match. Luckily, I can fix this issue."

Frisk watched a tall figure emerge from the darkness. Looking closer, it appeared to be the same person he saw earlier. The look on his face was very mature and melancholy, it was hard to read his expression.

The two stared at each other for a moment before Frisk broke the silence.

"Why am I here?"

The older man chuckled to himself. "I've brought you here to fix you. I couldn't possibly fight you when you look like this."

Frisk felt more frightened because of that statement. "Where am I? What are you going to do with me?"

"This is my secret lair, only I know the location. And, as I've stated before, I'm helping you out. I'm making you stronger."

Frisk was still having a hard time understanding. None of this was making any sense, everything he's saying is so ambiguous. He wished he could see more of the room, maybe he could figure out where he is. It couldn't possibly be too far away from his house. At least, that's what Frisk was hoping.

He watched fearfully as the older man walked past him and strayed into the darkness. Where did he go?

Soon he came back with something in his hand. Frisk couldn't tell what it is. He looked at the man to see him grinning slyly.

"No need to look so frightened, you should have seen this coming."

"I don't know what you're talking about.."

The man scoffed and approached Frisk. Rather roughly, he pulled Frisk's sweater sleeve up his arm (and managed to scratch him in the process). Frisk didn't understand what was happening until he saw what the man was holding in his hand-a syringe.

Frisk wasn't afraid of needles, that is, when they were in the hands of doctors and nurses that knew what they were doing. Frisk didn't know what was in the syringe or what the substance did to someone. He started struggling against his restraints.

The older man didn't even seem to notice. He inserted the needle into Frisk's arm, making him gasp in alarm. He injected the mysterious liquid into his bloodstream before removing the needle from his skin. Frisk couldn't help but cringe when the liquid was injected into his body for it had an unpleasant stinging sensation.

"Listen to me carefully-I better see you again before this next week is over. If I don't, those monsters you call family will pay the price, do you understand?"

Trembling slightly out of fear and shock, Frisk nodded. With a threat like that, he didn't want to argue or ask any questions.

The man smiled. "Good. The serum should kick in soon."

Right after he said it, Frisk felt tired and dizzy. His eyelids were becoming heavier and heavier by the second. Before he closed his eyes completely, Frisk heard "have a nice first night, Erhart."

Toriel was pacing in front of the TV nervously, feeling extremely worried about Frisk. It's been quite a while since she let decided to let him go out by himself, she was now feeling like it was a bad idea to do so. If anything had happened to him, it's very unlikely that she'll ever be able to forgive herself. How could she be so careless?

Sans, who was sitting on the couch, decided to get up from his seat and attempt to comfort Toriel. Gently, he took one of her paws and squeezed it, grinning up at her sweetly. "hey, i'm sure there's no reason to be stressing this much...I'm sure the kid is fine, he's probably just not keeping track of time. he'll be home before you know it. c'mon...sit down with me and try to relax a little."

The small skeleton attempted to pull her back to his seat on the couch, however, they were both stopped in their tracks when they heard a knock at the door.

"i'll take care of it." Sans said quickly before rushing to the door and opening it. Not seeing anyone standing there, he looked around at the open forest surrounding their yard. He thought he saw something huge and dark move somewhere in the shadows, but it was too dark to tell.

It wasn't long before Sans looked down and jumped out of surprise.

"oh no..."

An unconscious Frisk was lying at their doorstep. Luckily, it didn't look like he was injured or anything, he was just lying there.

Gently, Sans picked him up without trying to disturb him and turned around to take him up to his room. Toriel happened to be in the kitchen, so she luckily didn't see him. Sans went up to his room as quickly as possible, lying Frisk down on his bed gently. Sans checked Frisk for any serious injuries and luckily didn't find anything. Although, there were questionable scratch marks on his arm, but they didn't look too serious. In fact, the scratches looked old, almost completely healed.

Sans ruffled Frisk's hair softly, tucking him into his bedsheets.

"sorry for not checking on you sooner, kid."

Sans gently closed the door to Frisk's room, trying to not make noise at all. As Sans started walking downstairs, Papyrus poked his head out of his room and followed him, curious as to what was happening.

The short skeleton went back to sit on his spot on the couch (which happened to be on the left arm of the sofa), Papyrus sat right next to him.

"IS FRISK BACK YET?" Papyrus asked softly.

Toriel came back into the living room from the kitchen, also wanting to know the answer to Papyrus' question.

"yeah, the kid just got back-I had to help him up the stairs cause he was so tired." Sans chuckled lightly.

"THAT'S A GOOD THING, I WAS BEGINNING TO BECOME WORRIED." Papyrus responded.

Sans let out a little sigh. "you and toriel both..." he murmured.

"He wasn't injured, correct?" Toriel asked, seeming upset.

Sans noticed her distressed expression and tried his best to calm her nerves. "he's a-ok, I checked before he went to bed." Sans smiled up at her. "what did I say? there ain't nothing to worry about."

"WHENEVER FRISK GOES OUT, I BELIEVE THAT I SHOULD ACCOMPANY HIM! THAT WOULD BE THE BEST SOLUTION TO THIS SITUATION! TORIEL WOULDN'T NEED TO WORRY WHEN A SKELETON TRAINING TO BE IN THE ROYAL GUARD IS THERE TO PROTECT HIM!" Papyrus flashed a huge and cartoony smile.

Toriel smiled warmly in return. "That sounds like a good idea, I'm sure you'll do a great job, Papyrus."

She looked down. "Although, I feel like I should probably make it clear to him that I would appreciate it if he were back home at a certain time." She got up and looked out the window, staring into the seemingly endless ocean of dark trees outside.

"Who knows what could happen to him out there?"
