Tierno opens up the container, revealing three regular red and white Pokéballs in a horizontal line.
"You'll each be able to choose one," says Trevor.
"What Pokémon are they though?" asks Shauna.
"Why don't we find out?" replies Tierno as he walks around to our side of the table. He picks up the three Pokéballs with both hands and walks over to the open area in front of the tables. The rest of us gather up behind him. He then throws the Pokéballs in the air, releasing the Pokémon inside with a flash of light.
Now sitting in front of us are three small Pokémon. On the left is a brown badger like Pokémon with a hood of green fur. It has quills on top of its head, and if I remember correctly, is named Chespin. The middle Pokémon is a bright yellow fox like Pokémon with orange fluffs of fur coming out of its ears. This orange eyed Pokémon is named Fennekin. The last one is a blue frog like Pokémon with puffy white bubbles on its chest and back. It looks like it wears white gloves and goes by the name Froakie.
"Wow!" yells Shauna in excitement. "They are all so cute!"
"So we get to choose between Chespin the Grass type Pokémon, Fennekin the Fire type Pokémon, and Froakie the Water type Pokémon," says Serena.
"Looks like it. I read a little about these three in my studies," I reply.
Serena turns to me with a face of interest, " Oh really? Glad to see that Trevor and I aren't the only one that do their studying." She lets off a cute little chuckle before continuing, "How should we decide who picks first?"
"Well, I think it's pretty obvious who Shauna wants," I say as I look towards Shauna who is currently sitting next to the Chespin snuggling it to death.
"I just can't control myself! He is so cute!" Shauna retaliates.
"Alright then Shauna, you can have the Chespin," says Serena.
"Yay!" exclaims Shauna as her and Chespin celebrate.
"Who picks next then?" asks Serena looking back at me.
    "Ladies first," I answer.
"Oh, what a gentlemen," replies Serena. "I'll take you up on that offer then." She walks over to the two remaining Pokémon and ponders for a minute. "I think I'll take the Froakie!" she says as she picks up the small blue Pokémon.
"Alright then!" I reply, walking up beside her and in front of the last Pokémon. "Then I guess I get this cutie!" I reach down and pick up my new Fennekin. Its fur is nice and warm like one would expect of a Fire type. I wonder if it's a boy or a girl. "I was going to pick this one anyways!"
"Looks like everyone is happy then!" says Serena. Tierno then hands us each our respective Pokéball, and I attach it to my belt for easy access.
"Hey! Are you guys going to give your new partners a nickname?" asks Shauna as we all gather back around the table. The three of us now holding our new Pokémon in our arms.
"I don't think so. It's not really my style, and I think their original names are just as good," answers Serena.
"Me either. I'm just not very good at making up nicknames," I say letting out an embarrassed laugh. Everyone else laughs in reaction.
"Ok! My partner is Chespin! Wow! We go together great! The two of us are just way-ay-ay too cute! I think I'll name you Chester!" says Shauna excitedly as her and her partner hug each other.
"Sounds good to me," adds Tierno, and the rest of us make nods agreeing.
"Nice to meet you, Froakie. I'm Serena. Because of you, I can be a real Pokémon Trainer. Thank you!" says Serena facing her Froakie. Serena's Froakie nods and smiles up at her.
"Hi Fennekin. My name is Calem. I hope we can can be a great team!" I say to my Fennekin. Fennekin lets off a cheerful cry in response and smiles.
"Uh, pardon me, but I have something for you from the professor as well," cuts in Trevor. "I have something that will help you understand Pokémon on a much deeper level." Trevor proceeds to take off his bag and reach inside. He then pulls out three devices identical in shape but differing in color and hands one to each of us. It's in the shape of a square with rounded edges and seems to be separated into two different parts. The top and bottom are a firm material used for holding the center glass screen and serve as a way to firmly grip it. Pulling the top and bottom apart results in the revealing of the rest of the glass center screen and the word 'Pokédex' to appear on screen. "Um, so you see... The Pokédex I just gave you three is a high-tech device that automatically records the Pokémon you encounter!"
    "Cool!" replies Shauna.
"Wow. I didn't think we'd be getting Pokédexes too!" adds Serena.
"The reason you get one is because the professor wants us to go on a journey with our Pokémon and complete the Pokédex. To put it another way, it's an important mission from the professor. I'm sure of it!" says Trevor.
"Oh lighten up Trevs! You're way too serious sometimes." replies Tierno. "Um, C-Meister... Please take this with you, too. It's a letter from the professor. He said you should give it to your mom," says Tierno as he pulls an envelope out of his bag and hands it to me.
"Thanks," I reply, taking the envelope and placing it my own bag.
"All right! We're done with our errand for the professor. I guess Trevs and I will go look for some Pokémon now! Let's go, Trevs! We'll see you guys in a bit!" says Tierno. Trevor and Tierno then wave and walk off into town.
"Wow. Does this happen to everyone in Kalos?" I ask.
"In Kalos, some are chosen to carry a Pokédex and go on an adventure. I can't believe that we were chosen to do it though. We're real trainers now. But you need to give that letter to your mom before you go," says Serena.
"Yeah. I'll probably have to run over there in a second and give it to her," I reply.
"My very own Chespin! I want to play together soon! With a little one like this with me, I'm sure my journey'll be great!" says Shauna as she squeezes her Chespin in her lap.
"And now that we have Pokémon partners, we don't have anything to fear from wild Pokémon," adds Serena.
"Well I guess you guys can go ahead and get started without me. I'll head back to Vaniville, give this to my mom, and be right behind you guys," I say.
"No way! We don't have to part ways just yet, do we?" cries Shauna, turning to Serena with a pouty face.
"Of course not, we can explore town and wait for you at the beginning of Route 2, if that's okay with you," replies Serena, looking at me.
"Awesome! That would be great actually," I respond in a heartbeat. Shauna gives me a wink and giggles to herself a little bit. I'm probably blushing a little bit, but all I can do is smile. "Alright, I'll get going then. See you guys in a bit!" I turn towards the exit back to Route 1 with Fennekin in my arms and start on my way.
