Alexander Hamilton needed a break from the stuffy room. He quietly told his new wife where he was going, and pushed out the door. He inhaled the cool crisp air, and sighed. He walked over to an old wooden bench and sat.
While Alexander was glad to finally have a supportive wife, and the money he needed to thrive, he didn't like weddings, and he had really wanted to marry so soon.
"For two reasons," he thought. "One, the war is fast approaching. There is a good chance I could get killed." Alex made himself more comfortable on the bench in the garden. "And two-"
His thoughts were interrupted by someone sitting next to him. He'd been so caught up in his own thoughts, he hadn't even heard them approach. He looked over to see who it was and his stomach tightened.
John Laurens.
Hamilton didn't know if he could do this. The sun was beginning to settle into the hills, and cherry blossoms on the trees have begun to fall off in the past few days. It all came together with Laurens, his light eyes closed, sitting with Alex in the midst of it.
Alexander took a long, shaky breath.
"Look at where we are," Laurens quietly mused.
"It really happened," Hamilton sighed. "I never thought it would actually come together."
Laurens smirked, his eyes still closed. "That's wrong, you and I both know it. You had complete faith that this is where you were headed, up until a little while ago."
"Laurens," Alexander spoke softly. The other man opened his eyes and looked over. "What's going to happen? We talked about our options after... That... but now I can't... I'm sorry, you know-"
"Don't be sorry Alexander," Laurens scoffed, not unkindly. "This is good for you. You've always been a wide-eyed person. You now have more opportunities! Me? I've always been fairly simple. You know that."
"I know," Hamilton agreed. "That's why I like you best in the first place."
Laurens grinned. "Like me best, did you?"
Alexander laughed and shoved Laurens playfully. "Oh shut it, you."
They laughed a bit more and then settled down, comfortable in each other's presence.
Laurens mumbled something to himself, frowned, and began to stand up.
Alex let out a sharp breath and stopped him. "No, what?"
Laurens shook his head and sighed. "I kept all your letters, Alexander."
"John?"
"I wish, my dear Laurens, it might be in my power, by action rather than words to convince you that I love you. I looked at that phrase so much that I memorized it."
"John-"
"Let me finish Alexander. Then a few months ago came about, and I didn't think the world could get any brighter."
This left Hamilton speechless. He had thought Laurens had ignored him after that because he was angry...
"You're a married man now. My feelings have not changed. In a different world, we could have been happy. Alex, I still love you, and I doubt that will ever change." He let out a shaky breath and stood up. "That's all really."
Before Laurens could walk out forever, Hamulton stood up with him. He leaned close to his ear and said softly. "Neither have mine, John. I wanted that. I wanted you. Heck, I still do, but not a lot I can do about it now."
John let out a nervous laugh and hesitantly turned to face Alexander once more. "What are we going to do, Alex?"
The other man simply shook his head. "I don't know."

The after party was mostly the four of us drunk, to be honest.
We were all laughing and slapping each other's backs. There was one part I clearly remember however.
"A toasst!" John slurred, standing up. He blinked a couple of times, almost spilling his drink.
"Here ye here ye..." Herc mumbled.
Lafayette narrowed his eyes. "No it goes 'to the groom to the bride to my sister and me and side... No wait..."
Alexander snorted and doubled over. "I forgot her speech. It was good though. I think."
John cleared his throat. "Toast! Speech! Who wants to go first?"
Lafayette began, "Me-"
"Cool I'll go then!" Laurens grinned. "I may not live to see our glory," he began.
"... May not live to see our glory," his friends repeated.
"But I've seen wonders great and small!"
"I've seen wonders great and... Small."
Laurens made eye contact with Hamilton and winked. "Cuz if the tom cat can get married,"
Mulligan stuck out his tongue. "If Alexander can get married,"
Alex rolled his eyes and waited for the three to finish.
However, throughout it all, Laurens' words stung.
He wasn't even saying anything offensive, but Alexander knew the message behind it was this-
"You were never mine to lose."

Iiiiiiiiii have no idea what that was even! I wanted to do a lams shot but didn't want to write a kiss scene (aka I don't know how I would even) so that probably sucked. But whatever I mean at least it's Hamilton.
