Sitting on the studio floor to rest for a bit, I'm left alone with my thoughts and lately I don't enjoy them.
Denise's words have crossed my mind often during the last days. All bullshit! I don't even have a physical reaction when I'm around Madison. Unless you count the rare times when I caress her hand with my thumb and stop immediately when I realize it. I can't help it that she has soft hands.
Madison hasn't gotten to my heart either. She is more like an irritating itch that won't go away. Why would I want anyone like her around me?
She would do better with anyone else. Once she meets the right guy, she won't even remember we met. She's pretty, even without makeup, I can't deny that. Her brown doe eyes stare at me from time to time and make me feel uncomfortable. Maybe she needs to go out, have a few drinks and loosen up.
The ugly reflection on the large mirror confirms that I'm the one with a problem. A look at that guy with thick glasses on the morning after is all someone will need to run away from me. That is if they don't see my torso first...
"Sorry for the interruption. As you can imagine it gives me great peace to have the security cameras installed," Madison says the moment she enters the studio.
"Any news about that douche bag?" I stand up from the floor.
"He got booked. What I wonder is for how long?"
"What do you mean? He can't be set free. He trespassed your property and attacked your sister!"
Madison winces at the tone of my voice.
"Sorry. They can't let that guy go without paying for what he did."
"His father has connections or so the rumors say. Dirty business," she sighs. "Anyway, let's not get side tracked. It's time we try the cha-cha without visual cues," she removes the pieces of tape off the floor. "Are you wearing your hearing aids?" She asks and I nod. "I will stop counting the steps as well. Concentrate on the beat and feel it here," she places a hand on my chest and I automatically take a step back. "You've been doing great."
"As long as we don't look stupid. Are you sure I will be able to remember both dances?"
"I'm positive. You should see it this way; the first weeks you were getting the hang of dancing. Now you are truly learning and you will be able to remember more than two dances,"
"That is if I survive coming Saturday," I let out a deep breath. "If we make it, what comes next?"
"Rumba. One of my favorite dances,"
"Sounds old-fashioned."
"It's sensual," she smiles sweetly.
"Which song you picked?" I ask and brace myself for the answer.
"How Deep Is Your Love from the Bee Gees."
"How is disco sensual?"
"That song isn't disco. You must be thinking of Night Fever or Stayin' Alive. The song I chose is soft, beautiful and a classic."
"Remember when I asked you how old are you? I know now. You are like 60!"
Madison bursts in laughter.
"Don't tell Maurice," she presses her hand to her belly to catch her breath. "He always says I was born old."
We get to the dance line and she starts the music. We begin with some sensual movements and then follow the happy rhythm. I let the music fill me and my feet do their thing. Madison smiles. I hope I'm doing things right.
