The therapy exceeded everyone’s expectation. Even his doctors were surprised by Josh’s change of heart as well as firm determination to get better.
It only took him two months that usually takes six months to complete, the full rehabilitation and therapy. Dr. Jerez gave him clearance to join the basketball team’s practice but advised him not to overexert himself.
After his last appointment with the doctor, he went home immediately so he could chat with Hanna.
He used his laptop this time, while he was logging in his social account. He thought of a really incredible way to surprise Hanna. He got out of his room and looked for his Dad.
“My old guitar?Hmm… Ask your mom, Son. She was the one who put it away.” His dad went back reading the newspaper.
His mother was in the kitchen slicing up apples. “Baby! You look nice! I was going to bring you some apples.” She placed the sliced apples on a small plate and handed it to him.
“Thanks mom, I was wondering where you put Dad’s old guitar. I need it for something.”
Josh’s mother beamed at him. She was absolutely over the moon that her baby boy had finally overcome his episodes of depression.
“It’s in the garage, sweetie. Why do you need it anyway?”
“Er...well... Stuff…” He slowly turned around and went straight to the garage and left his mother smiling slyly.
He found the guitar case behind some old books that needed to be thrown out. It was dusty so he cleaned it up first before bringing it to his room.
He checked it thoroughly and found the guitar strings are still okay. He managed to tune it properly. Once everything is done, he set his camera in motion.
“Uh, well… Hanna, I know this is probably one horrible idea but I guess, I just thought that if I do make horrible, sloppy and embarrassing ideas, I would definitely do it so I could see you smile. So here you go, please laugh. I just want to hear you laugh and giggle too. Hah! God, this is embarrassing. I’m rambling like crazy. As usual, sorry. So here I go.”
Josh started to strum the guitar. Trying to remember that song he first learned to play when he was younger.
He then tried to find the voice to sing, to let her know even in this little gesture how much she means to him.
Every note. Every word.
He wanted Hanna to know how she saved him. From that lengthy star wars referenced letter, from every conversation, from every photo taken, from every prayer she has whispered for him.
He wanted her to know that she’s so much more than just a girl across the oceans from him. She was the girl he was willing to cross the oceans for.
He realized that he wanted to see how a smile forms on her mouth, how her hair dances while she walks, how her eyes light up whenever she sees dogs and how warm her hands are when intertwined with his.
He is falling in love with Hanna.
After he finished the video, he sent it and waited for Hanna to reply. He noticed that she was online and she has seen the video but she hasn’t replied yet which is absolutely odd.
He tried to calm himself by checking his other social media accounts. Josh had changed his social media habit after knowing Hanna. Josh no longer spends his time checking out people and playing keyboard warrior, instead he spends time chatting with Hanna.
He also went back to basketball practice that took much of his time. He does make sure he allots time to talk to Hanna.
When he got bored, he went out and played a few hoops in front of their house. One of his friends drove past their house and invited him over for a party.
