Scarlett's POV
"Thanks Garcia," I replied as she logged off. "Let us know when they ID the vics."
"The first victim was in the system," Garcia replied as she typed. "Jane Douglas, 23. Sophisticated psychologist with two years of police training."
"Doesn't seem like someone who would get a tumor," I replied.
"About 52,000 adults and children are diagnosed per year," Reid replied. "The five-year survival rate for adult men and women is 29 percent and 32 percent."
"Scarlett and Reid, go to the most recent crime scene," Hotch replied. "Morgan and Rossi to the morgue. JJ and I will go to the station to set up." I nodded. "We gotta hit the ground running."
"They found another victim," Garcia popped on the screen.
"That's two in one day," I replied.
"Lisa Paxton, 25," Garcia added.
"How'd you get an ID?" Hotch replied.
"It just blew in her ear drum," Garcia replied. "It killed her but it did not blow off her head."
"His mistake," I replied. "This one flaw is going to cause him to escalade."
"He already is," Morgan replied. "Thanks Suga." Garcia smiled and left. I'm not going to lie, but I was a little jealous. We started landing. "Same plan?"
"Yes," Hotch nodded. "Scarlett and Reid, recent victim."
"Yes sir," I smiled as the doors opened. "Ready for the fun, Reid?"
"What fun?" Reid asked.
"Come on," I commented. We got into an SUV and I started driving. "Do you usually work with a partner?"
"JJ mostly," Reid nodded. "Uhm, can I ask you a more serious question?"
"What about?" I asked.
"Morgan asked me why you're so rude and have a bit of hatred towards him," Reid stated. "I told him it was a question he was going to have to ask you for the answer."
"I don't know," I replied as I parked at the recent crime scene. "Habit, I guess. Or it could be the fact that I see, in his eyes, that he's trying to hit on me." We got out and walked up to the crime scene. The officer stopped us and we showed our badges. He let us through. "Detective Mills."
"Agents," she replied.
"I'm SSA Diamond and this is Dr. Reid," I replied.
"This kill is different," Detective Mills nodded.
"Different how?" I asked.
"We can identify her," Detective Mills nodded as we walked to the body.
"Just because she doesn't have her head blown off, you're going to put her in a different category?" I asked. "No offense, detective, but the unsub made one mistake. He's going to start escalading now."
"Do you know what it is?" Reid asked.
"It's a small explosive that's now lodge in her ear canal," Detective Mills sighed. "It got there after the explosive triggered." We heard a building blow up. "Oh no."
"What's in that direction?" I pointed.
"The station is a block from these woods, and the hospital is right down the street," Detective Mills nodded as we walked to the cars. "Our cars won't be able to go through due to the fire department."
"Then screw the cars," I replied. I started running towards the smoke forming in the sky. I can hear Reid and the officers behind me. As soon as I saw the damage I stopped running. "Oh my god." It was an apartment building in flames. "Damn it."
"Oh my god," Morgan stated as he stopped beside me. "How'd you get here before me?"
"I ran," I sighed. I stopped a fireman. "Is there anyone in there?"
"There's supposedly the Kaitler's baby stuck on the fourth room, first floor," he nodded.
"Thank you," I replied.
"You're not thinking what I think your going to do," Morgan replied. With that, I took off to the flaming apartment complex. "Scarlett!"
"I'm going in for the baby!" I shouted. I made it front the front door and it was hot. I made it to the room door and it was locked. I kicked the door in and walked inside. "Where are you?" Knowing the baby won't answer, I had to figure it out myself. "Okay, let's see." I checked the nursery first and no baby. I went to the living room and saw the baby in the playpen. "Bingo." I grabbed the baby and wrapped her in a blanket. I also grabbed another one and put it over her head. "Let's get out of here." I walked to the door and a column fell in front of me and blocked the way. "Oh no." I looked around and noticed the living room window was opened and the flames have not engulfed it yet. I held the baby close to me. With a running start, I ran through the window and landed on my feet. I made it out and a couple met me halfway. "She's alright. She's okay."
"Thank you," said the woman as I handed her the baby. "God blessed you and protected you in there."
"He also did with your beautiful baby," I smiled.
"Is there anyway we could ever repay you?" the man asked.
"Sir, I ask for nothing in return," I nodded. He was confused. "I'm a federal agent servicing the government." They nodded and walked away. Morgan walked up to me. "Don't say it."
"I was just going to say that was an amazing thing you did for the family," Morgan shrugged. "I guess complimenting you is out of the question."
Morgan started walking away. "Morgan," I sighed. He turned and looked at me. "Thank you." He smiled and walked off, causing me to smile. "I'll meet you at the station, then." JJ walked up to me smiling. "What?"
"Uh-huh," JJ smiled as she nodded. We started walking together. "Running into a burning building to prove a point to Derek, you're brave."
"If that was your child in there, you'll do the same," I replied as I looked at her. "If I have kids, I'll run in a burning building to save them."
